I'm looking to replace my fan with a lower temp clutch unit. Why is JK clutch so much more money thans SS Diesels? I can get the entire fan (duramax style) with a lower temp clutch for less then just the clutch from JK? Is there a big difference between these two units?

Thanks

Dave

Dave,

JK's fan clutch is actually a custom built unit that he has to special order in big lots and pay for before they even do a run for him. They are calibrated to kick in at a lower temperature. I have one on my wish list along with the 9 blade fan.

What was the lower temp advertised by SS?
JK claims the best equipment, not the cheapest.

You might want to ask JK to explain the difference, He has do lots of work in that area. Also look on his website to see the results using the D-Max Fan. Might surprise you

They both claim the same results. 15 degree lower kick in. Has anyone bought the SS one? what are your results? I don't mine spening more to get more but if they are the same then I would get the cheaper one.

I have the 170* clutch from Heathdiesel. It works well but all I had to compare it to was the factory one with 9 yrs on it at the time. You had to be near overheating to get firm lockup on the old one this one is firm before the coolant temp hits 210. The 170 is sensed at the fan clutch not the coolant temp so it doesn't lag on the motor when it's not needed like a bullshirt flex fan.

Is there a way to manually control the fan lockup - like on the big rigs?
That would be preferable to me, but I am a control freak.

IIRC the Humvee's use a hydraulic fan the power steering pump provides the pressure to operate it and it uses a sensor in the engine to operate it.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Maybe one of them would work?

I think the Humvee's fan is big enough, but I don't have any measurements.

I don't know where these claims are coming from, but I guarrantee you, they are built and calibrated to OEM spec. Mine is the only one calibrated to a lower than stock spec cut in temp.

The JK Clutch works, I've got my 6.5 configured with dual RS 180 stats. Before the clutch with the 180 stats I would see 190 on the water temp running with the A/C on, would still move up to 210 with a trailer on a hot day until factory clutch kicked in. With the 9 blade fan and KD clutch I see 180 on the gauge and have improved A/C performance, the most positive thing is that you can hear the fan roar quite often. I'd rather hear the roar than see the red needle sneak on up in temp. This gives me a better safety range in hot climate.

Do you have the clutch in stock?
