How many people use the oil life monitor, on the DIC to determine oil changes? How dependable are they?

this is going to vary for each owner and truck, the DIC goes by miles driven. I personally have changed mine twice before my notice even came on. just follow the maintenance schedule and you'll be fine.

This will probably get moved to the maintenance section...but, as briano mentioned, follow your manual, or if you are looking to practice extended drain intervals, invest in used oil analysis (UOA) reports. I've always recommended changing your oil filter more frequently (I change mine at around the 3K to 4K mile interval) - cheap insurance.

I use the oil life monitor, I usually change it when it gets down around 10-15%. I was told it was designed to take into account more than just milage, ie- load on motor, length of trips, temps....

I used to use the DIC now I use Amsoil and UOA.

Maybe miles driven, but from what I can tell, this is adjustable with EFI Live, which I am seriously considering changing, since I use the DIC to monitor and change my oil, even though I've run synthetic since the second oil change....

5K for me. i'm considering moving it down to 4K since i've been doing a lot more towing lately and have noticed the oil starts to get darker around that 3500-4K mile mark.

I change engine oil and filter at 5 to 7K intervals, tranny at each 25K and and rest of the fluids at 50K miles.

I wait until the light comes on on my guage cluster and then go to the stealer and get it changed. I also change the fuel filter along with every oil change. Usually around 7,500 miles or so. This last time in, I had to do a new belt tensioner and two new belts.
