Exccessive white smoke @ idle, and strong diesel smell in exhaust are usually early indicators of failing injectors. I guess it's up to you to decide whats excessive.

My truck ran perfectly, no knocks, no ruff idle, no nothing. I only had smoke at idle. Took it to dealer, they replaced all eight injectors, smoke gone.

Some might, but I think most don't. Mine didn't.

I have an '04. Someone told me to change the fuel filter. I did and it wouldn't prime. I contacted Dale Grose in Wenatchee, WA. He rebuilds the fuel filter adapter and sells a fuel wrench kit too. Installed the rebuilt fuel filter adapter. It primed like a champ and no smoke. Thanks Dale, and I hope you get fired Rick Waggoner, CEO of GM. When my dash gauges stuck I sent him the panel and he refused to replace it even though GM knew the gauge panel was defective!!! If you want Dale to rebuild your fuel filter adapter you can visit his website at:

i get a puff of white smoke when i first start it...only when the motor is cold. under 32 F its a lb7 with 54k i dont think injectors were ever replaced. when i got it, it had 32k on it. is that normal?

Dmaxkid, I believe that is normal. Mine does it, only under those conditions, but it quickly clears up and all my injectors are within spec. I believe it may be more condensation than anything.

My tuck has also been doing this for a while now. To make a long story short, I'm getting new injectors as we speak.
