So my in dash 6 disc will not read any cd I put in it so I am trying to figure out what I should do. I guess my options are A) to install an ipod adapter and forget about cds all together B) to install an aftermarket head unit or C) to buy another stock 6 disc. The only reason why I would buy another stock HU would be to not have to spend a lot on adapters to keep my steering wheel controls and to try and reduce theft. Anyone have any opionons on what i should do? By the way it is the bose system.

There is a reflash available for many of the GM CD players in the '03-'07 range to fix exactly what you are dealing with. I'm certain I saw the bulletin on here.
I can't find the damned TSB, but here http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=126100

I took my truck to a dealer and they had no idea what i was talking about. I guess I will have to try another dealer. Thanks for the responses!

Took my truck to the dealer and they said that the reflash would cost $85 and that the problem would most likely come back after a few weeks. Now im really confused as to what I should do.

If it is truly a software abnormality, it won't return in a few weeks if the new software fixes it correctly. How can they charge to reflash your radio when the software originally developed had bugs?

you could get another stock head unit if you don't want to upgrade. just a suggestion.

Warranty pays only .2 hr labor, why should you pay more??? Besides, if the flash doesn't fix it, you'll know right away.

Exactly what im saying. Unfortunally my truck is not under warrenty anymore and I find it very upsetting that the damn dealers charge for everything even if all they have to do is plug a damn computer into my truck. There is really no money out of their pocket.

One thing i forgot to mention is that as soon as i bought the truck i converted from xm to sirius using the sir-gm1 "brain" could this have any impact with the cds not reading?

Absolutely not.
Perhaps as a last ditch effort, you should try cleaning the lense on the laser. This will only help if the player actually accepts the disc(s).
Remove all discs from the player. Undo the dash bezel and remove. Remove the 3 screws holding the radio. Pull the radio out 'til the wires are exposed. The antenna wire is a very snug fit in the stereo and requires quite a bit of "pull"to remove. The other connectors have a squeeze tab that requires "pushing in" of the plug while squeezing, then (still squeezing down), pull the plug out.
Take the stereo top cover off and look for the laser lense. Using a Q-tip wetted, then blotted (not soaked, just damp) with regular glass cleaner, lightly brush the clear lense. Reinstall the cover, attach the power harness, and test.

my guess would be the laser reader went out usually if they are dirty u will just hear a lot of stactic and fuz. i would go with an other stock 6 disc. most places charge around 150 dollers just to keep steering wheel controls. i pod hook ups for factory decks run from $90 on up for a direct connect and less expensive for the lower sound quality am/fm transmitters

I beg to differ. This ain't no phonograph were talking about. Static and fuzz CANNOT be generated by the laser pickup ever. A partially dirty lense will lead to, at most, intermittent audio and slower initial read times.

you can beg to differ but i have seen it from experience but hey it might be a dirty lense that is just blocking the laser ll together u can start at cleaning it and go from there good luck
