I have a Dmax on order. I will be towing an 8000# Travel Trailer with it. How many miles should I put on my new truck before I start towing? Thanks, Ringer68

3-4k and you're ready to go wide open... change the oil and the tranny filter after the first food pull.

FYI- 8,000 is nothin' for the DMax..:D

I've pulled 20k with them...:)

Your book will tell you 500 Mi. Vary your speeds on hwy. during that 1st 500, and you will be fine since with an 8K trailer, its not working, its playing.

I believe that it is still necessary to change the differential lube after 500 towing miles. If not nec, do it, as you will not believe all the assembly crap in the lube. It may be the most important contribution to long differential life we can make.

First 500 hundred, lots of heat cycles no towing.
second 500 hundred, lots of heat cycles towing.
Then drain and refill.
That's how I did mine.

I hooked up 11 hours after I signed papers. No significant weight though. Changed the gear oil at 1000 miles. I think it is totally up to you and how YOU want to maintain your truck. Think for those trucks out there that don't do any of the regular maintenance except oil changes.

i was told from the stealer that more than anything else, is to change the rearend oil, most wearing are happening right of the first 500 miles, extreme temps are reached durring this process, and pulling is a big thing threw that time, as for the motor it was not to critical to tow or not

I'm definitely in the change-the-gear-lube crowd. I was appalled at the crap that came out the first time. Many thousands of miles later when I changed again to go to a heavier lube for weightier towing the lube (Mobil 1 75w90) drained out completely free of foreign matter and the plug was fuzz free.

Thats what I was gonna do to mine, but an emergency has come up and tomorrow I have to head for Ark from Cal.....you can bet the first thing thats gonna happen when I get there is the Diff oil change......the engine oil hasn't even changed color yet, but that might get changed too depending on what it looks like.....might wait 'till the whole trip is done for that....we'll see.
