I would buy it from the dealer. I bought an aftermarket one (made by autolite, I think) and it didn't look like the Delco plug. I got one from the dealer for $27 and the aftermarket one was $21. I replaced #5 with the one from the dealership and and cleared the code. It has been over 2 weeks and the code has not come back on.

I think it's worth the extra $$ to get the AC Delco plugs.

Not sure how hard on the engine it is with a plug not working. I'm sure it will be pretty hard on that piston after a while.

I just did number 3 on my truck. From what I have found, #6 is driver side third from the front. (2,4,6,8 front to back on drivers side and 1,3,5,7 on pass.). Dealer had them in stock for $22. Total install time was less than 15min.

Mine is at the dealer right now getting them replaced. My wait to start light stayed on and then the engine light, I ran the codes and it came up with 5 of the eight bad.

Odd # cylinders are on the passenger side and even #'s are on the driver side.
This is opposite of most gas engines.

Is it just me or is there a string of Glow Plug failures, I too have a #5 Plug failure, and I have looked on other sights, and found quit a few failures on them as well. Is this a common occurrence, or just a random thing? Also, is it worth just changing all of them at once, or just the bad one? Also, I read that somewhere some one had the tip break off of the plug and had to have the head pulled to retrieve the chuck, how big of a possibility is this?

Sorry for the possibly dumb questions, and the side bar in the thread.

The tip breaking off would destroy the engine. My LBZ has had two bad plugs now and a new Glow Plug Module. I would rather deal with these problems than bad injectors.

Update, got it back from the dealer. They replaced all 8 under warrany. Picked it up after hours (dealer was open, service wasn't) They "forgot" to charge me the $100 deductable. Good news for me.

Well, I replaced #5 myself last Monday, and the problem hasn’t come back, I got the part form my local parts supply house for $16.68 each. I checked for the tip and agree that it would be bad, but it also looks like it would take a bit to break off.

It looks like your still in 5/100,000 warranty, why would they charge you $100 ??

Besides IIRC glow plugs are part of the emissions warranty which I think is 7/150,000

just got mine back today having all 8 replaced.
had #4 bad.
they charged me the $100 deductable but at first acted like they wanted to hit me full parts an labour. fortunatly i had done my research on the LBZ glowplug issues and they conceeded to cover it under the 5/100K

not sure about glow plugs being part of emmissions, though

i got home today to find a check in the box from the dealer that replaced all eight of my glow plugs. it was for $100 - refund of warranty deductible.

guess i made such a stink about it that they did some research into the glow plug situation and found out i was right.

im not 100% sure but either the DTC code tells you which one it is or you take them out and look at them. here we usually replace all of them.

How did yall know which one was bad.

P0671-P0678 are the glow plug dtc codes. The last number is the cylinder.

I got a rough idle on Sat AM, but no codes or CEL comes on--I need to know if it is safe to drive my LBZ back to the dealer I normally go to--75 miles? Should I try to get it fixed locally? Mileage driven is 48 K and no problems with the fuel system up to this point. Thanks for your replies. FloridaVol1

Pretty common failure. There is an update for the LBZ's as well for programming to help deal with the issue.

I keep AC Delco GP's in stock

# 1 just went on my truck. I was going to replace it with a AC glow plug. But if what I am reading, will it still be covered under warranty? The truck has 51000 and is a 2006. Note: The cylinder head that is furthest forward is the odd (1-7) side.

2007 LBZ 33,000 miles
Wife called today because Engine light came on. She took it to Dealer, one bad glow plug (low voltage). Service manager recommended replacing all glow plugs for $600. I discussed the warranty with him, he thought they were not covered after 36 months. After checking he found they were covered 100%. Glow Plugs ordered and all will be replaced in a couple days under warranty.

This is my wife's truck, only 33,000 miles.

Will the glow plugs need replaced again in a few years or will the replacements last longer?

Should I ask about program updates?

Dealer found #1 glow plug was over 1 OHM. Replaced all 8 at no charge under Bulletin PIP3586F with GM part # 97364968. It has 52058 miles.
