I've got a buddy that just bought a new 2005 DMAX and was telling him that at 500miles he should change front and rear diff fluids and trans filter. His question was how long should he drive in 4WD, or does he even need to, before he changes front diff (breakin period) and should he change transfer case at same time?

Most say if you put 100 or so miles on it in 4wd then change that would be fine. I did mine with about 100 miles in 4wd and had a total of about 1000 miles on the truck. I would recommend changing the transfer case at the same time, at least I changed mine. Also there has been some confusion with some myself included as to which fluid to put in the transfer case. The correct fluid is ATF DEX III not Auto-Trak II.
