: GM Diagnostic Trouble Codes
Liftedhdrado 03-22-2005, 12:41 PM Hey everyone,
The engine light came on my truck a couple days ago. Went to auto zone and hooked up the computer to it. 3 Codes where found:
1. P0299-Under Boost Super Charge
2. P0401-Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Flow Insufficient
3. P0404-Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Open Position Performance
Called a local dealer and told me GM was working on a solution for these codes. Told me not a big deal, dont worry blah blah blah.
Just sharing with everyone out there incase you get the same codes......
briano 03-22-2005, 10:59 PM these are all common codes and all over this site.. they are pretty much automatic with exhaust/tuner/intake upgrades.
if its stock..then there is another problem.

Thanks for the info. Yeah I do have an aftermarket exhaust, edge/juice.
briano 03-23-2005, 10:08 AM the EGR codes are from the exhaust and you can get an EGR block plate and also Finger Sticks(just search for this stuff) and it will solve the codes. If I remember correctly the boost code is a result of the EGR codes.

I'll look into this finger sticks and block plate...i did alil bit of reading on the egr block plate but not too much on the figer sticks. I know theres a lot of info on this out there. Thanks for ur input.
cushmanman 03-24-2005, 06:14 PM I checked my vin number on the web at http://calid.gm.com and it stated I had a calibration update available to correct potential code setting of p0404 and po401 there is also a calibration update for codes p0116 and p0181. I have a 2005 model built July 2004. Go to the web address above and enter your vin number and select pcm then click on normal and you will see if your truck has any available updates. You will have to enable pop ups for the calibration checker to work.

Thanks for the info bud, I found the same correction codes as you...what is the next step?
Nacho05 03-25-2005, 07:31 PM thanks for the info now I have firepower to go to the dealership. I have the check engine light come and go several times and it gets anoying because once the light goes on, my truck becomes very sluggish.
cushmanman 03-25-2005, 10:20 PM I would go to your dealer and ask for a reflash with the latest calibrations

Liftedhdrado 03-29-2005, 05:41 PM what's a reflash? sorry I am a newbie to the diesel world!
rwagner64 03-29-2005, 05:49 PM Are-flash is when you bring your truck to the dealer and get your onboard comp updated with there Tech II. They plug it into the port under the dash and give the the latest updates for your vehicle.
Liftedhdrado 03-29-2005, 05:53 PM since I am running the edge, I should take it off right? and make sure my truck has no codes correct? will this prevent any EGR CODES?
rwagner64 03-30-2005, 07:49 PM I was told to take off my Banks before going in, 2 reasons I think- the flash may affect the tuner and didn't want the dealer to see it.
I wouldn't worry too much about any codes (unless you can clear them)
MiDmax 03-31-2005, 09:18 AM Take off the Mod's..... The dealer can/will note on the history of vehicle. Which, in turn they can use to void any or all of your Warranty...
Remember....... OUTA SIGHT ..... OUTA MIND...... Hope this helps you.
I remember by the time I used my First free Dealer LOF. The Tech made a Big Note that I had an Aftermarket drain plug(FUMOTO VALVE).
 Why????? I couldn't tell you.........
turbov6joe 03-31-2005, 07:09 PM My rig is basically stock (muffler gone) with 600 miles on it and it through a code of some sort today. Is there a way to read these codes without a scanner?
MiDmax 04-01-2005, 08:16 AM turbov6joe (http://dieselplace.com/forum/member.php?u=15029)<SCRIPT type=text/javascript> vbmenu_register("postmenu_534049", true); </SCRIPT> , Yes !!!!! You can take your truck to AutoZone and they will read the codes set, and can clear them for you for FREEEEEEEEE;) .

cushmanman , thanks but how long does it take to get the info from that site? I've tried on thre occasions and all it says is that it is getting calibration info. ten minutes later, it's still getting info.
thanks
cushmanman 04-03-2005, 09:04 PM It should be an instant reply. Look at the top of your page when it says getting calibration information. If your browser says pop up blocked click on the pop up bar and temporarily allow pop ups this will let the calibration come through. If pop ups are blocked you will not get the info.
