ok my truck just starting having really high oil pressure problems at idle about 40 psi and when driving even at wot it is about 80 , is this normal , i changed the oil and filter and it didnt change. what could the problem be ? spun bearing mabe? i sure hope not . also when i let off it drops really fast to about 40

whats the outside temp? is the truck up to temp? if not the pressure will be higher same if its cold.

if you seeing those pressures when the motor is warm (180 deg) then its your gauge cluster or the sensor in the cluster.

when cold i got 65-80 psi when warmed up at 65mph i sit at 65psiand at idle 50-55psi . in a tsb i found gm said to use 5w40 to cure high oil psi

idle should be around 25. driving at 65 it should be around 60

that im not too sure about. mine went bad right when i bought the truck. the dealer fixed it for me. they did something to the sensor then i had the cluster replaced shortly their after (speedo needle bounced). hopefully someone else will chime in.

I think the lb7 has high oil pressure so its normal

With it now getting into the teens here in Minnesota overnight, when I start my truck in the morning I see oil pressure around 65 at idle...THIS IS NORMAL. When its even colder like last winter -20 it would be 80PSI as soon as it started at stayed there for a while.
Its all in the owners manual of what to expect as far as oil pressure goes and the ambient temperature.

Hook a mechanical gauge in somewhere or even easier hook a reader into the obd11 port and see what oil pressure is there....not sure if you can read oil pressure at obd port though because my hyperpac doesnt have an oil pressure option, thought that was kinda lame.....there should be some place around the oil filter housing to hook up a gauge..?

yes you will see higher oil pressure when its cold out. but once the engine warms up it will go down to the pressures i posted.

I believe 01,02 LB7's run higher pressure than 03,04
I've owned my 02 since new, it's never been lower than 40 psi at warmed up idle, it now has 120k miles on it
It always goes to 80 when started cold will run 65-70 psi warmed up going down the highway.
Is this a new pickup you have, have any history on it etc. it's more than likely bad cluster thou, Jim
