This is a follow-up to the "1 Gallon of water in my fuel " thread. As you may have read, my truck broke down with atleast a gallon of clear water in my tank. I called my friend George and he educated me. He said bad fuel contaminated with water will look like thick, milky-yellow. However, if someone vandalizes a fuel tank by pouring water in the fill tube, the water will sink right to the bottom and stratify into a layer of clear water on the bottom and fuel on top. Because there is no pump (as in a service station fuel pump) to beat the fuel and water into an emulsion, the two will not mix. So when the filters are drained it will come out as crystal clear water, no emulsion.

I used this info to write a letter to the fire department where I work. I used this info provided by George to identify that the water in my tank was without a doubt vandalism. I also threatened to file for an investigation that would likely result in a person losing their job.

Well, someone voluntarily, though anonymously, came foreward to pay the more than $560 bill for the damages. Georges convincing and scientific info was used to shame someone into paying up. Thanks, George! You are the MAN!

I must keep any further details about the "case" to myself. You are probably wondering "why" would someone do this. That is a good question. Let me say I am a well respected and well liked individual on the FD. He probably drives a F**D or worse, a small foreign economy job. Regardless, he is short $560 and will probably remember forever, DONT MESS WITH A FRIEND OF DIESELPLACE.COM, the resources are too deep, you will LOSE! Thanks George! SPICER

You are not a "proby" are you? Could explain the why, even though it was malicious.

WOW, that scares me.

I will admit to having a few enemies.

Does anyone make a "lock" for our fuel caps?

I will never understand why GM and others dont make the fuel door a remote open like they do with most cars.

I bought a locking fuel cap from my stealer. Had to order a 2003 cap since they did not have one listed for my 2004. It was under $15. They won't stop somebody who really wants break it, but it does stop the mischevious kids on the block. There is a gt250 delco cap that fits. A search on locking cap should show up some alternatives.

I kindof like the locking door, instead of the locking cap.

Marky...Would you mind posting the part number for the 2003 locking cap?

Marky...Would you mind posting the part number for the 2003 locking cap?I think the part number I bought was 1507 1104. I went into the stealer and asked for a locking cap for the 2004 No parts on file. I then asked for 2003. No parts on file. I then gave them the part number that some other poster had found and thats when the stealer said "here it is". I have been using it for many months now without a problem.

The cap has the little diesel fuel only emblem, but you need to move the retaining strap over from your old cap.

The GT250 locking fuel cap was the first accessory I bought through ACDirect.com.
You swap it out by removing the tether from the old cap with 2 small screwdrivers. Kinda like you used to remove a bicycle tire.

I just figured it was a die-hard K&N filter user that didn't like your filter test.

I think I remember writing something about that in your original post. The key was so much water in one shot (a whole gallon)

Don't think you could go 40 miles with that much water and not know it sooner.

Glad you got it straightened out.

Wow...some 'brother' you work with. Do you feel safe in the same house as an a$$hole that would do that to you? What would happen when you two are partnered up for a search? Who comes out?

Time for a transfer (Any openings on a Heavy Rescue or Truck Company?) ;)

Thanks for the replys to all. Of course I do have a suspicion of who did it. At this point it is under investigation so I am zip zip. I am just SO happy to have had George as a resource. It was he who convinced me this was an intentional act.

I have a locking cap now too. I got it at Wal Mart. SPICER

Do you keep your truck inside the fire station? How do you know it was not a citizen with a grudge?

Slow respsonse, too much tax dollars?

I really should not divulge details here. We do know for sure it happened inside the station. We have space behind the ladder truck and we kind of take turns bringing in personal vehicles to wash, etc. Leave in overnight so it is not an ice block in the morning. SPICER

Any update on the investigation? I would be very leary of working in a house with 'brothers' like that. Keep your eyes open!
