I am looking at buying a 96 GMC one ton 4x4 dually. It has 110,000 miles and I was wondering what life span a 6.5 turbo has. I know it will depend on what the truck was used for and how hard it has worked, but are these 6.5s a good powerplant? Also can you put a chip in to improve fuel economy? Years ago, I owned a 84 Suburban with a 6.2 diesel. It was a very reliable vehicle. Thanks.

I bought my '95 new and have about 186,000 so far so good. There are folks with over 400,000 mile engines running around.

Thanks.'96 is a good year, nice interior's on the k/c 3500's and the motor doesn't have oil holes in the mains (aka crack channels) like '97-'00.
