I've been crusing through various sites and I've stumbled across great little statements such as "Cummins specs" and "Cat Specs", etc, etc. Does Standayne have specs as to what they want to see their incoming fuel filtered too? Obviously, the finer the better, but I was wondering, where's their starting line at? 50 microns, do I hear 30? 30 do I hear 20?

Is the stock filter 10 micron?

5 micron IIRC is the factory 6.5 filter, DMAX is 2mic

2 micron pre filter with water trap. Gets water that I never got out of the OEM filter.

So, is there an "inexpensive" setup to add on to OEM filter setup to get down to 2 micron? Or do you go for broke on a Racor?

My advise is go with a 10-20 mic Racor or equivalent on the frame with the AQUA block element to "sift" the large chunks & water out of the fuel, as detailed in FAQs; the 5 micron on the engine will be plenty for our low pressure system on the 6.5, 2 mic is specced for DMAX as they run a Hp system

HP, that must be that 30,000 psi system on the dmax?

I'm working toward my veggie oil conversion. I will be making great attempts to put good oil in the fuel system, but I don't what to be putting in any more IP's. Once is 'nough for me for a long while I hope. I'm attempting to make a very good system at a resonable price if at all possible.

KN KREB the Racor installed pre lift pump with a heater option on it mite be what you need to preheat the veggie oil blend or are you going SVO

Problem with many of the diesel fuel heaters, are that they are not designed for the long term duty of veggie oil heating. They are more designed for "warming" diesel up past it's gel point. Veggie's got to be HOT. I'm building a special heater, that's actually very simple to build yourself. It's simple, reliable, and easily to replace in case of failure. (as opposed to the heater failing in a built in heater in the filter)

It's a plan I bought off someone that does this stuff all the type. Can't really tell you much about it, 'cause it's his plan.

Want any info 'bout it email or PM me, or do a search for Dana Linscott.

" perma cool" much cheaper than Racor ( no heater though)

Filter has a water drain, filter twice as large & half the price ( 13.00 ) Jegs catalog.

Installed filter pre lift pump as reccommened by Manu. , Did see a drop to "0" of fuel pressure in EXTREME load, Added second in line Lift pump for the big hills...

Those # are both correct.

I have a Racor 445 with a heater installed pre-lift-pump with a 30 micron element. It really keeps my stock filter clean to the point that I bought a fuel pressure gauge to monitor my filters, so I don't waste money replacing them to soon.

I wouldn't go with to fine (smaller micron rating) of a filter pre-lift-pump because our lift pump doesn't have any extra capacity to spare.

I have been running the 10 micron as a primary for almost 2 years, have press gage and vac switch both to let me know when filter becomes dirty, according to Racor tech pubs and tech help line no problems with running that as a primary. I have the 660 series (60gph) vs 445 (45gph), Racor makes 3 elements 2 mic (S code), 10 mic(T), and 30 mic (P) tech specs can be found here http://www.parker.com/racor/pdf/Section01.pdf Wix & Baldwin also have equivalent spin on fiters that fit the Racor head. When going permacool et als to save some coin Carey brings up an excellent point make sure the filter selected does not put too much flow restriction on the lift pump.

SO TD do you still use your factory filter as well ?

Yes I use the factory as installed, but have put a vac switch on it also to alarm when it needs changing

Primary 'ADD ON' 2 micron filter with a Aux lift Pump; turned on when needed.

fuel pressure gage on dash to know when Second lift pump is needed

Change 'Add on' filter every 10k and OEM filter at 20K ( just before Nov trip to maine.)

Note, I always get a small amont of rusty water out of the add on filter,
never got any water out of the OEM filter.
