I just installed a trailer brake controller in my '05 2500 D/A. The harness came with a 40 amp fuse, but the directions said I don't need it if I have 2 batteries. I didn't install it, and my trailer brakes work, but my trailer interior lights don't. Is this fuse for the 12v+ feed that is always on? I read somewhere that this is the case, and the directions are just crap. I figured someone here would be able to answer this for me.

HI THERE,
That fuse is for the 12v feed to the back. it is in the black box under the hood. It may be covered by a sticker. look for a blank fuse.

yep, that is what that fuse is for. It will charge your trailer battery as well.

The dierections that say not to use it if you have 2 batteries is for the gas engine's that have the 2 battery option.
As said earlier look under the hood at the fuse box and look for the plastic plug with a B+ on it taking a fuse spot, pull the plastic plug out and install the 40A fuse in it's place and your good to go with 12+ to your trailer plug.

Hi Diesel Dragon,
What kind of pto do you have and is it on the trans?

Don't have a pto, just the pto switch that I use to turn on my high idle.
It's the same switch that's on the cab and chassis :)

I didn't install my fuse for that exact reason, two batteries, i guess i will put it in now,
thanks everybody.
sounds like they need to be more specific on that little sticker that comes wrapped around the fuse and cord.

Didn't put the fuse in and went camping, had 12v refer on and a dead battery by the time we arrived at the ocean.

Just put my fuse in. I hooked up the brake controller and did not install the fuse because it said not to install it if you have 2 batteries which of course the diesels do. I missed the part on the sticker that said for gas only. Glad there are so many here on the board to help.
What did we do before the internet... I guess just believed the dealer or figured it out the hard way.

That sticker confused me too. I keep the fuse just in case and now have it hooked up. Thanks for the info. Great to have people who these things.

My Jayco Dealer recommended only installing a 30A fuse at the STUD 1 Fuse location on my 2002. 30A is the size normally supplied with my camper.
Your camper might be the limiter.
