: B&M Drop Tranny Pan
MrTailLight 03-21-2005, 08:47 PM hey fellas i am going to install my B&M drop tranny pan tomorrow......let me know if there is anything i am going to run into that i need to know about.
also, i am going to try and put in my B&M tranny coolor with fan....should make a big difference....i hope!
DieselPro 03-21-2005, 11:21 PM Epoxy a magnet in the bottom to catch the meta-mites. Get a aluminum magnet for the alumi-mites.
quantum mechanic 03-21-2005, 11:33 PM The PML deep pan I put on had a magnet tipped drain bolt. Put on a fresh filter of course and use the compression gasket if it's still good. The rebuild shop recently made mine disappear and a cork one took it's place, not cool. So far all's well, can't complain as long as it's rolling.
qwestqaz 03-22-2005, 07:17 AM 2 rear bolts hard to get in, need "small " head bolts like original.
If any questions on " extension " and screen retainer. CALL BM, very helpfill.
quantum mechanic 03-22-2005, 08:06 AM It's best to remove the tranny crossmember, two bolts to the tranny tail shaft, four at the frame, lift the tanny and it slides right out then all bolts are accessable like never before.
MrTailLight 03-22-2005, 11:22 AM it didnt look to be that bad, and had some clearance to remove the pan. im gonna try to get the cooler installed as well.
is there a place i can get a magnetic bolt to put in place of the origonal that is built into the pan?
MrTailLight 03-22-2005, 08:38 PM turns out the B&M pan already had a magnet built into the drain plug.
to change the rear bolts, we just removed the 2 tranny mount bolts, and jacked up the tranny less tha an inch.....the 2 rear original bolts went right back in place!
turns out i needed to get some pipe fittings to install the tranny cooler...maybe tomorrow.
i did find an awesome place for the intercooler while we had it on the lift. should work out fine in the end after i make about 4 brackets.
nvmtnlion 03-22-2005, 10:50 PM Okay, I have no problem professing my ignorance http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/redface.gif WTF is an aluminum magnet and where do you get one?

Diesel_Day_Dreamin 03-22-2005, 10:58 PM Watch it! He's probably the same guy who will sell you a muffler bearing. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
MrTailLight 03-23-2005, 08:21 AM the plug that went in the alum. hole for the drain plug was made of alum also, and had a center hole cut into it with a magnet set into it. i guess i should have explained that earlier! looks to work real well, then when you change the fluid, you can clean off the magnet!
guybb3 03-23-2005, 09:22 AM nvmtnlion is talking about dieselpro having a yuck with us by mentioning an aluminum magnet
guybb3 03-23-2005, 09:23 AM Ok mrtaillight, I can see the gears turning, where are yoiu thinking of putting the intercooler?
MrTailLight 03-24-2005, 12:21 AM it fits right between the frame rails.....more like against them! i have the metal on the way for the brackets, and should have it installed this weekend if all goes well. i will take pics, dont worry!
i did remove the alum plate that bolts to the frame and the cross member, gave a few more inces to place the IC up in the truck away from the rocks!
i did tow with the new pan on today, the wifes durango water pump took a crap and had to go to wooster and pick it up. the burban was loaded, and running good and tranny temp did not go over 230, even up hill. i think the external cooler will be even better! that goes on next.
bowtie 03-24-2005, 12:59 AM Which frame rails. Up front just higher or some other special place ?
guybb3 03-24-2005, 07:57 AM Can't wait to see it. I've been too afraid to mention the thought of mounting it under the truck. Thought I was the only nut here.
MrTailLight 03-25-2005, 12:46 AM so now im a nut!? LOL
i think with the size of this unit it will fit best under the core support, behind the bumper....and below the bumper. it is to large to mount under the hood, so under the truck is the only place to go with it. i will try to get it on the lift tomorrow and check it out more. im kinda excited about the install.
quantum mechanic 03-25-2005, 09:10 AM There's a bunch of room behind the bumper, just 3" in front of the radiator. A combination of the two might help fit it.
bowtie 03-25-2005, 09:24 AM PICTURES, pictures, pictures we got to have pictures
quantum mechanic 03-25-2005, 09:53 AM This is a '93 with skid plate removed, the two lines are for my add on oilcooler, and don't apply to other trucks. First shot is looking straight up at the underside of the subframe holding the condensor and radiator. Second shot is the side view.
steiner43511 03-25-2005, 11:38 AM hell you should of stopped by. i go to school in wooster. how far is edison?

shakmobil 03-25-2005, 08:29 PM There is no such thing as aluminum magnet, iron is the only metal reacting to magnetizm.
DieselPro 03-25-2005, 09:13 PM Do a google search for "aluminum magnetic knife". There is aluminum magnets, but only certain kinds willl attract alumi-mites.
MrTailLight 03-25-2005, 11:48 PM hell you should of stopped by. i go to school in wooster. how far is edison?leave it for a name like steiner on here and be from Wayne county! i grew up in Orrville and went to school with Steiners....even the Steiner tractor kids.
Edison is an hour south west of Wooster, south of Mansfiesld, and east of Marion.
you going to the college, or the OSU?
