Hi Guys,

Question here....... I went and looked at a new 2500HD Dmax/Alli 4x4 Reg cab, A/C, Vinyl floor, roof lamps, CD, Sticker was $45,000. I am aiming for a lower monthly payment as I cant swing $800+/month for a truck. Question is can I talk them down and then tell I want to lease? Never bought new or leased before, so I am not up on the etiquette ( BS Haggeling..... ) of it all!!

Thanks in advance,

Will

A lease purchases is no different than a out right buy. You should be at or very near invoice. With a lease you pay the depreciation over the term of the lease and in a close end less the residual factor is predetermined.

Negotiate from the invoice price not MSRP. Don't exceed miles in lease agreement and take care of vehicle as you'll be charged for every scratch, ding etc. when vehicle turned in at end of period.

The answer is: ABSOLUTELY!

The dealership is selling the vehicle. You are acting as the purchaser for the leasing company. Negotiate the CAP COST just like you were purchasing it. And, don't forget to factor in any rebates AFTER the negotiated CAP COST is agreed to.

Don't fall for any CAP COST reductions that require you to make a down payment.

Ask for the internet sales, they will usually give you invoice price at the start or close to it. Plus you can still get the rebates that are offered.

45k for a regular cab that is way too much. You can get a crew cab 4x4 SLT for 48 K loaded. That dealer is rapping there customers.

WilliamBos is in Ontario, Canada. He is probably talking about $45,000 Canadian for the truck. Just checked $1.00 Canadian is $0.8327 US that makes his quote $37,471.50 US.

I just got a Dmax/Ally, 4X4, CC, LT, with all the towing Pkgs, Mirrors, etc...all options other than MX radio, sunroof & entertainment system for 40,000 out the door and that was 0% for 5 yrs plus a 7 yr/80,000 mile extended warranty and inc. tax & license......Bought fleet.....invoice + $400

I would say, off the top of my head, that you shouldn't pay more than 33/34K for the truck you described.....OUT THE DOOR....and you should be able to beat that with some effort.

The LAST thing you ever want to tell them is what your willing to pay in monthly payments.....that gives them all the ammo they need to start playing with you.....NEVER TELL THEM THAT.

Buy fleet and don't worry about the hassles.....there are none.

Good Luck

Oh.....Canadian dollars.....that makes some difference.....still high though IMO

Find out dealer invoice and work up from there. You're still better off with a purchase IMO but I can understand wanting to keep the payments down. In the end , however, you will find it will cost less per year to purchase then to lease if you consider you will have nothing at the end of a lease but at the end of a purchase term you will have an asset there which you can either keep and be payment free for a number of years or trade in for another and then have a lower payment. If you do go for the lease make sure you check the interest rate and the residual value as these can really affect the payment. You can also go to the GM website and play with the payment calculator to give you an idea what kind of payment you will have for given terms such as purchase price, interest rate, residual value etc.

Go to leasewizard.com, this will give you the tools you need to negotiate a good lease deal. Yes you can negotiate. Go to KBB.com to find invoice pricing.

Go to carcostcanada.com pay about $20.00 and get dealer invoice cost. Then you know what the dealer paid for the truck you are interested in. We just leased a 2005 3500 crewcab SLT Duramax loaded in Edmonton and the 3year lease rate was 725.00 Cdn including GST. GMAC interest rate on 3 year lease was 2.9%. Paid $1500.00 over dealer cost which was probably to much but we need the truck now. Don't get sucked into the extended warranty. They wanted $965.00 to extend the warranty from 60000k to 72000k. A lot of money to gamble that you are going to have a repair that will cost you more than $965.00 in the 12000k that the extended warranty covers.
