: ATS T/C Puked!!!

So let me ask you something, how do you like your ATS Triple Lok???........Well done or extra crispy!!!

Don't know exactly what did it or why, but I just dropped my truck off at ATS and I think the T/C is toast. I have good reason to think that the Stator in the T/C is cooked because the truck with the brakes applied will now stall at 1000 RPM's and won't budge or build boost, truck still drives but tranny almost hit 250 on my temp gauge doing minor driving around town!!!-:t

Will keep you posted on what ATS finds tonight and how good their customer service is with warranty work, I'm hoping for a good outcome :) .

no, he called me on this a few nights ago and I told him I thought his converter took a dump... I wish no trouble on him at all. I am sure that ATS will take care of the problem. Not sure if they will do labor or not though as they only sold the parts.

That sucks Wade. These things are where the service really shines. Let us know what happens, and what happened.

What really sucks is that I thought the T/C would be the last thing to go in the tranny setup. Now it kinda worries me on what will happen in the future, especially since I'm the one doing the labor on this stuff. I'm no Dmaxallitech so this takes me a little while. I'm confident that I can get it done in a afternoon since I don't have to take the tranny apart this time.

I'm not too worried about the service that ATS will provide, they've been great to me so far and have been nothing but helpful. I've just been taken for far too many "joy rides" from auto tech's to trust anyone I don't know personally.

I also hope that I just happened to get the lemon in the bunch and the next T/C will hold.

Converters go bad for whatever reason. You will be fine.

03-21-2005, 11:12 PM
Thanks for the encouragement!!! I'm hoping this will be a good season!! At least I have the warranty in case something does go bad with another T/C.

Mike, what could make a stator go bad??? one of the Tech's said it could be the one way bearing on the stator itself, does this sound about right???

Mike L.
03-21-2005, 11:30 PM
The sprag ( one way locking bearing ) can go bad for a lot of reasons. Slightly undercut part, doesn't take much. defective part or perhaps a bad batch of stators, rebuilder not checking a tolerance or the best one is, rebuilder having a bad hair day. I am sure you got a fluke, we all have problems, trick is to keep them to a minimum.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. It could happen to any truck running any one of the big company's converters.

Ok, here is an update.

ATS just called and said they think it is a T/C problem as well. They did say that they need to cut it open to see whats going on and want to drop my tranny. I told them that I would prefer they didn't since I don't want to pay for the labor. He asked me who did the work on the tranny and I told him I did. At that point he said that he would cover the labor for the removal and reinstall even though the warranty only covers the parts since I did the labor!!!!:wtf1: :thankyou2

I don't wanna jump for joy just yet because I don't have my truck back yet with no bill, but I will say that if they are for real on this and truely cover the labor and T/C without comming back and saying that it was somehow my fault, then I will be one happy camper!!! :cool2:

It really sounds like they are doing everything they can to get the problem fixed. I won't know the end result untill Monday of next week when I will be dropping my truck back off to get worked on. They are really going the extra mile on this one and I hope everything goes as well as I'm hoping it will!!!

Thanks guys for your support!! I'll keep you posted.

Hate to burst your bubble but...... When, if my TC took a dumper ,I would want my tranny disassembled and inspected for many reasons

IBDMAX'IN
03-22-2005, 06:38 PM
I was planning on inspecting the tranny if I did the swap myself but I don't know how far they will get into the tranny for free!!

I will pick my truck up today and pull the pan to see if I can see any debris in the pan, but other than that I don't know if I should ask them to look for more. The bill could get rather pricey.......but then again I guess it's cheaper than having to buy a new one because something else is screwed up!!!

Ok guys, here's the update:

Called ATS today and they said that when they took the torque converter apart the stator was completely demolished!!! They're not sure why it let go the way it did but they did say it was pretty bad. So they are going to completely tear down the tranny and inspect everything to make sure all the gear train is ok along with the valve body clutch packs, so on so forth. They did say that they were going to do this all under the warranty of the torque converter since it caused the initial problem :thumb: .

They also said that a good amount of aluminium was injested by the tranny and thats the big reason for the tear down.

All in all I'm pretty impressed with their customer service and Darrin at the front has been more than good to me!!!

I'm glad to see ATS standing by their product as well as they are, it really makes me feel like I made a good choice by going with their product even though I got a bum T/C.

They did say that it wouldn't be untill this up comming Monday before they could have the tranny overhauled and put back into the truck. I guess I'll just have to wait a little longer to go out and play :( .

Thanks for all your support here on the site!!! it makes me feel like I'm part of a family rather then a forum!!!

I'll keep you posted on what goes on throughout the week.

Cheers, Wade

Every manufacturer is capable of having a failure. The difference between a good company and a great company is how it is dealt with after the failure occurs.

Kudos to ATS :Handshakefor standing behind their product, and for not getting into the behind of their customer. :D

I'm actually glad that my T/C took a dump, it's showed me that ATS is, and will stand behind their stuff. Makes me a little more comfortable with my racing agenda this year!!!

Also if you need to talk to anyone down there talk with Darrin, he has been fantastic with the whole situation and has treated me with respect. Good customer service is hard to find these days, and I'm glad to see that ATS has someone like Darrin on board.

Cheers, Wade

Ok, so here is the verdict. I got the truck back yesterday and everything is running smooth, strong and back to the way it should be.

I'm really impressed with the way ATS handled this situation and backed their product. Darrin that runs the Customer service was great and when I picked up my truck there was no argument over costs because there was none. They even changed my t-case fluid for free!!! I know that's not a big deal but for guy like me it meant the world that I didn't get screwed over.

I'll recommend ATS to anyone here and do so with confidence. Thanks again for all your support.

Hope to see most of you this year at the tracks and events!!! :grd:

I am glad to see that they did not tell you it was your fault because you installed some thingamajiggy backwards.

I am glad to see that they did not tell you it was your fault because you installed some thingamajiggy backwards. Can't do much to miss install a T/C and make the stator explode!!!

But I am glad they didn't try any funny business!!!:) They were real straight forward with everything and got the job done :thumb: .

Now if it were the dealer, and I had a warranty problem with something, I'm sure they would tell me that thingamajiggy, hooked up to the whatchamacallit that turns the doohicky is bad because you did something but we're not sure what..............I'd be putting that thingamajiggy right up where the whatchamacallit don't shine :sheephump !!!!!
