: Firewall insulation coming apart?

I've got an 2004.5 with less than 10,000 miles on it. Cleaning under the hood yesterday I noticed that a large amount of the firewall insulation directly behind the engine is coming apart and disappearing. It looks like the black paper covering is disintegrating, leaving the yellow insulation exposed and falling off. It looks to me like it would be a real pain to replace this.

Is anyone else seeing this?

I havent noticed this on mine, but I would agree that it probably would be a pain to replace. Best to get it done under waranty.

Mice got to mine last summer. Interesting to see that I am not the only one that has had their truck used for nesting material.

I checked on the price of a replacement pad last fall, and I thought it was expensive at the time. Unfortunately, I can not remember the price now.

I have been intending to check with my body shop guy to see if he has any scraps from hood pads. I was thinking of cutting out a patch of just the black covering and gluing it to the exposed areas on my truck. Besides the expense, it looks like it would be difficult to change out the complete pad.

Does anyone else have some suggestions on how to fix this?????

Took the firewall and hood s%*t out the when I got it. No change in cabin sound. No heat damage to paint. More engineer stuff that is useless.

This happened to me a couple of years ago on a different truck. In my case it was not mice, but a squirrel. He was actually trying to build a home in the engine compartment. Squirrel would run back along the frame rails and on gas tank when I was motoring down the road. Finally got fed up and took truck to one of those car washes with a high pressure wand. Nailed him several times before he finally ran off. I was a mess.

Just finished battling rabbits. One of them got in my dmax and chewed up some wires underneath the hood. I saw them climbing up in there for a couple of days before I decided I needed to do something about them. Didn't think they would chew on the wiring until I saw the check engine light come on.

Nature is just a dirty place where the animals run around uncooked.

I went to the local farm and ranch store and bought something called repel. It has a verfy bitter taste and is compatible with plastic, paint, etc. Stuff stays on pretty good. Even after a couple of months I can tell it is on my hands after I have messed with the truck. I just reapply every few months. I sprayed every bit of wiring harness I could get to.
