I have a NEW 05 GMC 2500 w/ duramx! Very excited about my new purchase.

First on my list of mods i want to do is a TV / DVD player for my kids. Need something to keep them quite on those road trips.

I have seen some pics of past threads of guys who mount the DVD player in the dash under the cig. lighters. That seems to be the best place and is where i would like to mount my DVD Player.

I stopped off at my local Audio Shop and they told me that they would have to fab. up that installation and that they do not sell a Adapter kit for that lower compartment.

I find that hard to beleive and am now turning to the real experts. The Dieselplace Forums.

soooooo, where can I buy an adapter plate for the compartment below the cig. lighters for my Truck...if they make one.

I used a Alpine DVD in the dash under the power points/ cigarette lighters like you are talking of and then added two screens in the headrests of the front seats. The two screens were made by Clarion and came with two wireless 2-channel headphones. That way one boy can play playstation and the other can watch a movie or whatever. The DVD was hardwired into the AUX of the factory 6 pac Disc player so if we all want to hear the movie then I just push the AUX button and the sound plays through the truck speakers. Very slick setup. As for having to do any fabbing the local audio shop here just used the alpine equipment, The dvd player is mounted or slid into a separate housing that can be bolted into the dash.

Well, first question is, how much money do you want to spend? I was looking at the Vizualogic A-1000 7" headrest systems...dvd player in the monitor itself. No cutting, looks like a simple install. Costs as much as the GM OEM setup. You can put in two DVD players for $200 more.

www.vizualogic.com (http://www.vizualogic.com/)

Best price I found for the system was at www.JPCustoms.com (http://www.jpcustoms.com/). $1299 for single DVD, $1499 for dual.

Hope this helps.

Also, PM BlueOx03 or BassinRv'r, they both have hi-end DVD systems.

Fabbing up a mount for the cubby hole in the center console under the cigarette lighters should be fairly easy. You will have to do a bit of surgery on the console. You can pop that part of the console off (where the too storage holes are and cigarette lighter). Then you might have to remove some substructure from behind that cover in the dash depending on how deep your DVD player is. You can cut out one of the storage hole pockets with a razor, dremel tool, or whatever.

Whatever you do stay away from FM modulators for the sound. Use an aux hook up harness. They will make the sound much better---no interference from other nearby DVD players using modulators and no interference or having to retune the modulator while traveling.

There really isn't a "Kit" For mounting a DVD player or anything else there. You just have to cut the pocket out. I use a Dremel like T-rex mentioned and cut all but some of the bottom out. I leavethe bottom for exta support. once you cut it, you can put any DIN sized unit in there. If you need more depth you can cut the piece that's in the way out, it's just there to support a 6disc changer you don't have anyway.

Thanks for all the info guys...So the end result is if I want to mount my DVD player under the cig. lighters I do have to fab. something...and it isn't very difficult.

So is my local stero shop were to do this its not a big deal and shouldn't be to much more $$$$
