I had the joy of replacing a coil to the 3rd cylinder of my wife 1999 E-250 5.4L conversion van this weekend. Autozone scanned it for me and the coil was $50, I fainted at the thought of replacing all eight. luckily it was just one. A pain to get to, but nothing a couple of beers does'nt fix.

So long story short. What is good brand of scanner? I do not want blow alot of cash, but I would like to scan the Van and truck, whenever necessary.

Truck is a 7.3L(diesel) 2002 Crewcab w/ 87,000k, Van is a 1999 5.4l 79,000k (gas), Conversion Van with a Wheelchair lift.

Anyway, the coil took about 45 mins with a friend, and his scanning tool to verify we got everything fixed.

The wife thinks I'm genius now.

Power programers such as superchips read and delete DTC's for their specific vehicles. I don't think you can get a good scan tool for $120. A Ford dealer scan tool is best. You can get a generic one from Snap on for several thousand.
