I'm new to the forum. I've reviewed the FAQs and the diagnostics, and I see some problems similar to mine, but not exactly the same. I need some advice from some of the experts here!

Here's my problem:

I have a 99 diesel Sub 4X4 2500. I starts just fine in the morning, and runs fine until I shut it down. When I go to restart it, it either won't start or it won't stay running for more than 10 seconds or so. No stumble or stutter, just cuts out. Won't start again for several hours. I have had the lift pump and oil pressure switch replaced by a mechanic here in town (he suggested this as a likely fix) but the problem remains. He had me open a cap on top of the fuel filter housing (under the shroud on top, at the back of the engine) to purge air from the lines as a trick to get it started when it strands me somewhere. I've tried this and still won't start. His suggestion is to replace all the fuel lines to eliminate the possibilty that there is a leak somewhere creating air in the lines.

What do y'all think? I can't keep throwing money at this thing, and I can't keep getting stranded places, but my Sub isn't worth much for a trade-in. Any ideas? Any suggestions?
I'm not too mechanically inclined, so dumb it down a little for me;)

:welcome: to The Diesel Place P D!

For starters - Fill out your signature (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/profile.php?do=editsignature). It helps us help you as time goes on. List any mods, transmission, gearing, etc, etc. The more info about your truck the better.
The usual best advice is to do the diagonistic check list (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42248) , but that may not be any fun on the side of the road :(
I'll suggest that you fill in what you've observed, at this point.
A couple of questions:
Do you get air out of the fuel manager when you bleed it when the engine won't start?
Have you gone over the ground system and battery connections?
When it won't start do you have vacuum at the fuel filler cap? You shouldn't.
Good Luck - Hope we can help get you running reliably soon!

Thanks. I've updated my signature and i'll start working my way thru the diagnostic checklist.

I have found that the fuel cap "wooshes" when opened. I loosened the cap to allow it to vent, and I still have the same starting problems. I'll begin working on the list in the meantime.
