I've had my my truck in four times for clunking sounds when the trunk goes over bumps. First time, no problem found. After charging me $100 this last go around, Im not happy. These things for some reason keep falling off. I wont replace them again now I know what they are - a piece of plastic between the last set of springs in the rear. I was concerned originally there was a problem with the drive train. Anyone else having this problem?

There is a cheaper alternative that seems to work well... walk on over to http://www.gmdieseltech.com/store2/cart.php?target=product&action=view&product_id=16222&category_id=248
and see if that is something that you are interested in. The guy that runs the store is a regular here who has provided a wide range of knowledge and information from suggestions to simple hints and tricks. I hope this is what you are looking for.

I bought a set and they are worth the few buck they cost. They are easy to put on as well. It's nice not having the spring slap.

Holding up very well I might add...

Sounds like a common problem. Too bad my dealer doesnt think so. Thanks for the link!
GM also has a similar insulator to goes over the bottom spring. I have had both my trucks fixed under warranty for the spring slap issue.
GM part #15604176 - insulator - 4 required.

Looks like a big thick O-Ring to me. Does it wear out very fast? Does it stay put? What's it made of? TIA, BB.

RVC - is your part number the new replacement? The pn they replaced mine with is 15053476

That is the number on the work order and I just had my 04 done last week. Not sure if the part number was different when I had the 02 done two years ago.

Check your lower rear shock bolts. Very good chance that is loose and causing your noise.
As far as the spring insulators installed by GM. Some trucks including mine eat right through the factory pads. Take it in and most likely they will replace the factory pads with the exact same part. This will not last very long.
The TSB has numbers for replacement insulators. They look different then the stock insulators. They are big and quite noticable. They wil not wear out or fall off.
Trick is getting dealer to order the true TSB parts and install them rather than same old factory insulators. The new ones are rubber boots that pound on over the end of the bottom spring.
Bronco as you said "Trick is getting dealer to order the true TSB parts and install them rather than same old factory insulators. The new ones are rubber boots that pound on over the end of the bottom spring."
That is what I got put on both my trucks for the excesive spring slap issue.

They installed the OEM parts on my truck twice! I even handed them the TSB the second time.
Went to new dealer, they fixed me right up. Some dealers are just no good with trucks.

The true replacement TSB parts are the plastic disks. The big pound on things are a better solution, but at 40.00 each, its hard to get GM to cough that up. My spring insulator's work better yet and dont wear out.
