I think the heads on my GM goowrench engine are bad. Got a set of 82 heads theat are suposably warped. Can I combine the 2 in to 1 good set?

machine shop will have to make that determination, its possible neither set is any good, or both may be repairable, never know til you get someone to check them out.

War Wagon,

Why do you think your heads are bad? Are you still chasing the knock?

Still looking for knock.

Of the knocks that I have witnessed, bad roller lifter, tick, piece of glow plug imbedded in top of piston, knock, worn connecting rod wrist pin bushing, knock.

The glow plug knock is probably one of the most common. Old 9g glow plug blew off tip and it imbeds in top of piston, hitting the head every time it goes through it's stroke. I would pull the head on the side of the knock.

The guys that are checking out my engine said they tested the glow pugs and that they were all good.

The broken-off glo plug may have been replaced, leaving a piece inside the engine, on top of the piston.

I know for sure that the glow plugs were not replaced since the knock.

Dunno, but I've had pieces of broken glo-plug move around on me. Sometimes, knock, sometimes not. Fred

Did the knock start since you have owned the truck or was it there before you bought it? What we are trying to say is that many times glow plugs have gone bad and caused some damage to the top of a piston, then glow plug was replaced and vehicle sold. New owner has no clue of the history. I have witnessed many glow plug failures on different engines after removing the heads. Tops of pistons are sometimes full of small nicks. Other times I have found a piece of a glow plug tip sitting sideways on top of a piston and half imbedded in the aluminum.

The injectors are rebuilt and should be installed by the end of next week. We'll fire it up then and see what happens.
