Hi! I hope someone can please help!

I have a 98 Suburban 2500 with 102k miles.

The other day and my Suburban just died at a stop sign and wouldn't start again. Acted like it was out of gas and would begin to start, especially if the accelerator was pressed, but would just die.

First I thought maybe fuel filter because I started running veg. oil mixture a couple months ago and hadn't changed the filter yet. I changed the filter and it looked pretty gunky. My suburban started, but within five minutes it had died again. Then I checked my in-line fuel pump, and it wasn't working. It was making a slight noise, but not pumping anything. Got too cold to keep working though (I'm in Alaska).

The next day, I was able to start my suburban again and the fuel pump sounded fine at first, but it died again after about five minutes.

I changed the fuel pump, but I haven't gotten any better results. Sometimes the fuel pump is working; more often it's not. I also noticed a clicking sound under the hood when I turn the key to "on" and the pump is not working. It's not a fast clicking sound, just once every ten to twenty seconds. It seems to come from around the fuel filter area.

I'm beginning to suspect that I have a fuel pressure sensor that is malfunctioning, does that sound right to any of you who are more knowledgeable? If so, where is it and how do I replace it?

Thanks for any help!!

I think the key words here were veg oil. I'm promising you that your tank sock is plugged. Break into the fuel line right by the rear wheel well and blow some compressed air backwards through the line (take the fuel cap off first). Don't get carried away with the pressure. Ask me why I think this is the problem. Please fill out your sig. as well so we can help you. I've been blending for a couple of years now and just recently went the full BIO route.

I forgot to add that the fuel pump might seem like it's what the problem is because the tank sock won't allow it to pull any fuel. I have a brand new Walbro that wouldn't even come on because the vacuum through the fuel line had it locked solid.

Thanks guybb3!!

That did the trick and now my Suburban is running fine again. I guess I was close to the problem when I thought my fuel filter needed changing, but I didn't think it would get plugged at the tank. Also, I had fuel coming through sometimes, but now that I think about it, it was always after I had disconnected the lift pump. I guess that broke the vacuum enough to let some fuel through but then it would plug up again.

But I guess whatever was plugging up the tank sock is still in there and I'll probably have this problem again if I don't remove it. Can you recommend the easiest way to do that? Also, has this same problem ocurred to you often, or only rarely?

mamzerook: Thank you for the information you gave as well. I was thinking it was electrical, so the info on the PMD made sense. Even though that wasn't my problem this time, it's good info to have. Mine is still mounted on the pump so I guess it is just a matter of time until I have a problem. I'll get myself one of those remote install kits before the PMD is the problem.

Thanks!!!

This is going to sound like bull but I fixed mine by going to BIO. The clog disappeared when I put my first full tank of home brew in. I was blowing back through the tank every 3 days before that. It's been 4 weeks on BIO now and no cloggs. The best way to deal with it is to take the tank down and clean it, I would think. My pickup in the tank must have been getting restricted from Veg buildup? I'm really not sure. I have a pre-lift pump filter so all the stuff the BIO is breaking loose will get collected. Glad it worked out for you Tamerlane.
