Anyone happen to have stock cam specs?
Just curious what the difference is between stock vs Raylars vs Comps.

Oh, and on a cam change what springs are needed, beehive or a regular coil spring?

Thanks,
Rob

Anyone...? Bueller..... Bueller...

Just trying to figure out a baseline to compare a few aftermarket cams.
Got to know what your starting with to know what you might end up with.

Thanks,
Rob

Stock cam for a 4.8, 5.3 and 6.0 is a 190/191, 0.466" / 0.457" on a 114 LSA. Springs are good for just under .499 lift from the factory. I couldnt find any info on the 8.1 but thought that this might help some...

May be a long shot, contact one of the major cam companies.

When I was thinking of 'redoing' a 4.3 some years back, the only place I could get the stock figures was from Crane Cams. Shoot them an e-mail and see what happens.

No luck on getting stock specs from.............. basically anyone.
I've emailed Scoggin Dickey, Comp, Crane, GMPP, Raylar, and noone seems to have them. Got any ideas on where else to look? Maybe a GM manual of some kind. Stealership? Maybe, but they have bigger problems on their hands right now.

I've got cam information on all of Comps and 1 Crane cam, but Raylar declined to give specifics on any cams he has.

Welllll, that sux!

Did you try (if still around) Isky? In the meantime, I'm gonna dig thru my crap and see if I may have something. Doubt if any will show, but have one (still working) brain cell that says I may.

I'll be back...no pun...LOL

The factory manuals only list the cam lobe lift specs. Duration and timing events are not given there.

2001 L18 8.1 camshaft lobe lift specs,
Intake 0.2726-0.2766 in
Exhaust 0.2745-0.2785 in

With the 1.70 rocker arm ratio this generates approximately
Intake .467
Exhaust .470

Yeah, I'm just not sure how else you can compare how great a new cam is without a stock baseline (prior to destalling the stocker and figuring it out) ? Basically, this would just be to know what all you are gaining by going aftermarket. Is it worth the cost/time or should you just modify what you got?

I appreciate the information and time spent fellas. Have a good New Year.

here are specs for mercruiser 8.1
base engine; intake .282(7.16mm) exhaust .284(7.22mm) no duration listed
part number; 431-881627 list $536.39 375HP
high output; intake .30(7.62mm) exhaust .30(7.62mm) no duration listed
part number; 431-881628 list $581.46 420HP
might try gmparts direct and see if part numbers cross or if any cam manufacturers have cam matching specs. hope this might help.

I've got a Raylar BigPower towing cam on order right now. I will try to have it installed in a week or two. I'll report back!
