: bent my tie rod
05LLY2500HD 03-20-2005, 02:32 PM Censored I'm sure you know how. DAm it.
Should I go ahead and buy aftermarket or beefier tie rods or stock ones and SD sleeves?
SD are you out there?
This sucks.:o:
heartbeatcanada 03-20-2005, 05:21 PM SD's sleeves and centerlink rock
dmaxalliTech 03-20-2005, 06:37 PM tie rods are about all the same, then you just put the sleeves over them
duramaxdiesel 03-20-2005, 08:07 PM Get the SD sleeves. Problem solved. How badly did you bend it?
05LLY2500HD 03-21-2005, 07:22 AM pretty bad. Almost snapped it in two.
05LLY2500HD 03-21-2005, 07:41 AM I don't have much time so I'll prolly have to take it to a local mechanic I know. How hard is it to change out tie rods?
MrsSpoolin 03-21-2005, 01:07 PM We did ours in our parking spot, at night, in freezing temps in an hour or so. Paid less than 65$ through http://www.newgmparts.com/, it was here in about a week, maybe less.
Scott C 03-21-2005, 02:34 PM This could be an ignorant question, but why is everyone upgrading there tie-rods? I hear people talking about sleeves. Our my stock ones not good enough? or did you just hit a curb?
ratlover 03-21-2005, 02:48 PM When you do pulling or do 4x4 hole shots with a bunch of boost or wheel your truck hard or other stupid stuff you can break the stockers. If you arnt doing anything stupid you dont need em. Its like if your not doing anything stupid a stock allison is great!
Notice in my sig I have an aftermarket trans and his sleeves and a bunch other stuff.;) I like to do stupid stuff:exactly: :rockit: :cookoo:
Edit: BTW, run now and dont ever look back. We will get you doing stupid stuff too if you hang out here too long):h

To correct her, we replaced a failed tie rod END. The tie rod is still good, but once we have the cash I'm getting the SD stuff.

ahhh....I couldn't agree more!! :iamwithst very well stated Ratlover!! ):h
05LLY2500HD 03-21-2005, 10:04 PM I have pics, can I email them to someone that will post them? I took it to a shop and paid $186 for the inner and outer tie rod. I know, I know, cheaper to buy the damn sleeves.
keepin' it 03-21-2005, 11:05 PM Third time I flew my 2002 and put it down with the wheels not straight on, bent one and damaged the ball joint on the other. Spent the money and bought the Bullet Proof rods and ends. No problems. Lands like it has wings.
Cougar281 03-21-2005, 11:08 PM Here are the pics... Ouch

Thanks Cougar281.
keepin' it 03-21-2005, 11:39 PM and gm will tell you that is a design weakest link to protect the rest of the components. yea...
05LLY2500HD 03-21-2005, 11:41 PM and gm will tell you that is a design weakest link to protect the rest of the components. yea... say again??
cit1991 03-22-2005, 12:21 AM All that from just a 4x4 power launch? Wow, those rods are weak. The bullet-proof hardware looks nice, but expensive.
itonoffun 03-22-2005, 01:21 AM check out cognito motorsports tie rods with heim ends 310$ for set.
Z71 Grizzly 03-22-2005, 09:17 AM Just imagine that happening when driving normally down the road and they were already weak and you hit some big potholes.
BullydogPowered 03-22-2005, 10:13 AM does it go straight like that?:joke:
keepin' it 03-22-2005, 07:12 PM I've been told by a GM rep that certain components are designed to fail under extreme stress to protect other major components from catastrophic failure. This is bull to disguise design flaws. The tie rods and ball joints on the HD are weak. May last 300K miles/might last 20K miles. I don't abuse my equipment, but flying it off the deck at 60 mph. a couple of times shouldn't totally fail the tie rods/ball joints.
IBDMAX'IN 03-22-2005, 07:25 PM Bent tie rod..........$89.00

lakingslayer 03-22-2005, 09:01 PM Stock tie rods are like an expensive front end fuse. SuperDiesel tie rod sleves rock:rocking:
