Thanks for all feedback on installing the Prodigy controller. Sounds like something I can do and save some money to buy other goodies. In my other thread about outfitting a new truck, there were a couple of recommendations for the Brakesmart controller (although these people had the Prodigy). Anybody actually have this controller and can it be easily self installed like the Prodigy?

SURE APPRECIATE ALL THE RESPONSES.
I don't want to have to outfit this unit twice. Already made a mistake of buying an F250 V10 and replacing it with a 3500 Durmax.

I have tried to buy a Brakesmart controller, but being told "maybe we will have some next month" is a little tough to plan around.

i installed mine about 3 months ago, took about 25 minutes. very easy, i was a little nervous about tapping into the brake line but that was simple as well. I have towed with the prodigy as well, the brakesmart is smoother for me. has many other functions like controlling hyfraulic over electric if I ever need it, and hopefully middle of this summer a module that will allow you to monitor EGTs and boost will be available as well. I am really hoping it gets released, it wuold keep my juice module stealthy if and when I have to go to the dealership and still allow me to monitor all the vitals without adding anything else.

For my money, the brakesmart gets the nod

I installed my brakesmart. Took me a little longer than 25 minutes, but it is an easy install. Tapping the brake line is simple and the wiring is very easy and straight forward.

The controller itself is increadible. The truck and 5er stop as a unit, no pulling or pushing. Very smooth operation. In time of emergency when you need the trailer brakes, the Brakesmart will give you 100% power to the trailer as fast as you can step on the brake pedal. I do not know of any other controller that can make this claim.

For the safety and features, well worth the money.

Look at http://www.brakesmart.net/ . Installation instructions can be found under "installation" on that site. I just received one last Friday, cost $350 w/shipping.

I ordered mine about mid Feb. Before I did, I e-mailed info@brakesmart.net. The response was quick and accurate. They stated that the controller should ship the second or third week in March and it did. They didn't bill the credit card until the unit shipped.

I did a fair amount of research before ordering the BrakeSmart. Opinions on a variety of truck and RV oriented websites were consistent. The consensus was that the Prodigy controller is a very good controller, but the BrakeSmart is better.

Given all the money I've spent on the truck, hitch, and 5th wheel an extra $250 for the controller is almost noise.

Remember, this information is worth just what you paid for it. As always, YMMV.
