I do not haul anything of great weight. 18' pontoon boat. Do I have to put E rated tires on this truck due to the weight of the truck plus anything I haul?

I would kind of approach buying higher rated tires this way...

You probably could have gone with a 6.0L Vortec for your truck, but you opted for an LLY Duramax. My point being, that if you're going to spend the money on tires, you might as well get the tires with a higher load rating.

You should be fine with an 8ply tire but I'd stay 10ply,not much diff. in price if any.

I would run the correct load range.

Had the D rated for 2+ years towing my toyhauler 11-12k and they were fine, but when I purchased new tires I got the E rated. Piece of mind.

If you are sticking with OEM size tires you can check with tire dealers for take offs from new vehicles traded in on non stock tires. Big savings.

I would look at the lb. rating of the tire. The stock tires are rated at 3040 lb.'s. You can get D range tires that are rated for 3100 lb's....so the load "range" is really a range, it's not the end all of what that tire can take.

If you get a cheaper tire that is rated for less than 3000 lb's make sure you mentally derate your load capacity an equal amount. If you put on 2500 lb. rated tires you can now haul 1000 lb's less weight in the bed or load on the toungue......are you sure you want to give that up? If the tires are rated for 2900 lb's then the 200 lb difference won't matter near as much.

my load range E Kelly Safari tires are rated at 3042lbs, Like LMM Guy said, look at the weight rating of the tire, its much easier to understand that than the load range.
