Well I got my Power Pup in last week and after having it two days went to Broken Bow Oklahoma with a 9000 lbs TT. With my setup and Pup on the 80HP program, towing there and back into a 10+ mph headwind, I averaged 9.88 mpg. Not too bad considering I had extra power all the way and I kept on it most of the way. Also driving between 70 and 75 a good portion of the way and being stuck in a hell of a traffic mess on SB I-35 at the OK/TX border didn't help.
The tranny did shift down to 4th gear on the quick short hills but other than that it ran in OD at about 900 on the EGT. One time it peaked at close to 1200 when I passed an old Ford going UPHILL at over 80 MPH. Not too shabby. :ro)
I was on it pretty hard the way up and back and I know the wind didn't help but I am a little disappointed in the mileage. I guess if I had been more gentle with it I would have done a lot better. Ah yes, besides the above, the slowing down and accelerate in the small towns didn't help either.
And one other thing. I know the '01 had a reprogram for the tranny due to shifty behavior. Mine seems to drop down a gear while set on cruise after a 3mph drop in speed. My dad's '03 will drop down after a 5mph drop in speed. Is this something my local mechanic can "fix" or reprogam on my truck? it always seems to shift just before cresting the hill but if it were to let the truck drop another 2 mph it would make it over without having to shift.
Overall, very happy, I just need to keep my foot out of it so I can get the better mileage! And with the extra power I was afraid of higher EGT's, no problem with the Bully Dog pup, EGT's were not much more than normal with the same load on the same types of terrain. Looking forward to my Colorado trip now to try some real hills!):h

Heres my findings on fuel economy.
At 1950rpms with A/C off I get 20.7 mpg (Freeway no stopping, no wind , no hills)
At 2000rpms with a/c off I get 18
At above 2k rpms I get 16-17
With 1950 rpms and a/c on I get 16-17.
Above 2k rpms and a/c on it goes to hell (14-15).

do not be scared to try out the 90hp setting for towing, you have gauges, so you can keep an eye on it, a few other buddys only use that position for towing, as pc has found, better mileage can be found under 2000rpm, i think you could get a bit better mileage when fine tuned, keep up the good work

thats what i found on mileage with my Pup at 70 hp setting. Above 70 (2000rpms) mileage went to 16 under 70 back to 21-23. truck was unloaded

Yeah I figured that keeping my foot out of it and towing it a little slower would help with the fuel economy. I just can't stand these idiots who get right behind your trailer where you can't see them and expect you to move out of their way! So I give them a little smoke and they seem to disappear (but then again so does my diesel fuel:grd: )

Yeah, I guess that I should be a little more patient but it is hard when they are drafting and you can feel them pull you down that little bit.
Are the numbers about right for towing? In town driving difference from stock to Pup has gone up considerably. I haven't been able to do a straight highway only test yet.
I hesitiate to try the 90HP setting with a stock tranny. Has anyone cause theirs to limp? And I am wondering if it will kick my mileage in the groin and cause it to go to hell again?
Thanks for the input guys.

some have the 80hp over the 75 tune, same tune, different people writing the info

and yes there is guys pulling with the 90hp tune on stock setting with know problems, if you decide to go to the top tune(150) you will need to upgrade the tranny over time

It is a great tune. I may just have to try the 90HP tune to see how it goes then. I may not want to stay with that high of a tune with the new 5er I am trying to get (12,000 GVW) I guess we'll see!
