: ssdieselsupply exhaust install
Joey D 03-19-2005, 11:20 PM
I got my exhaust last week and did the install today. Anyone else have one they installed? I am very disapointed with my system but due to the old exhaust being rotten and removed I had to make it work as I need the truck mobile in case of snow tommorow. I know I may be stuck with this but I am going to call Walt on monday to see if there is anything he can do.
BornReady6.5 03-20-2005, 03:04 AM I installed the same system last week. I am fortunate enough to have a truck lift to make the install easy. It would have killed me to do it on the ground. Anyway, I am very pleased with the quality and the sound as well as the performance. My only gripe was I had to modify each hanger. Wasnt that big'odeal, just inconvienent and took me longer than the directions advertised....all in all, it was a good experience and I am super happy with it. Oh, at first I thought it was a little on the loud side...but after driving it 1600 miles this week...the tone and sound mellowed out perfectly. I get a lot of compliments, and the turbo whine is the cherry on top.
TurboJunkie 03-20-2005, 07:32 AM I also have same exhaust and am very pleased with everything. My install went pretty well, I was able to use most hangers on my 2000. Fit is superb sound is great and performance is the best. I did install my on ground and it was pretty simple.
Joey D 03-20-2005, 07:51 AM I am sure my main problem is the downpipe needed a small bend to position it correctly. I am welding up 2 new hangers today to make it work as I own it now
Joey D 03-20-2005, 07:54 AM I forgot to say it does sound great which is another reason to make it work.
Another gripe I have is with UPS, they bring new meaning to the word drop shipped. I had to hammer all the ends round to make them fit.
nvmtnlion 03-20-2005, 12:49 PM Joey,
I just installed the same system. It works great and I love the power, sound, and MPG gains. On my truck, the hangers would not work and I had to modify them with the parts from the old hangers. Since I had to add the catalytic converter, the bend over the crossmember and torsion bars was not in the right place at all. My saving grace was a local big diesel shop with a mandrel bender that could do up to 10" pipe http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif. My system came with one piece that I had to "Convince" to fit the others too.
Joey D 03-20-2005, 01:33 PM My problem was the downpie needed an additional bend. It runs very close to the frame rail and is also close to the shock in the rear.
It's all welded up with custom hangers installed by me.
cjk65 03-20-2005, 06:25 PM I just installed the ssdiesel 4 inch about a month ago and I will agree that the down pipe is very close to the frame, I tweaked it again this weekend and I think that I have got it so it will not rub, the next thing is take it off and have it bent just a little. Mine is also close to the rear shock but I can live with that...
joispoi 03-20-2005, 07:23 PM Installed mine about a month ago. Agree with most of the above. Great sound, mellowed out a bit after a few hundred miles. Downpipe took some convincing to get towards the turbo. I had to shorten the inlet side of the tailpipe to get it away from the rear shock. Hangers were a bust. Happy with the sound. Still have to dynamat the cabin:rolleyes:
16gaSxS 03-21-2005, 01:06 PM I put the Jardine/Pinical 3 inch system on years ago it took the fellow at the exhaust shop 30 minutes to do it and all the hangers matched up perfect. If I had it to do again I'd get their 4 inch and I I think they have it for like $300.

This is the kit I have 3" down 4" back with magnaflow 4" muffler, and it fit pretty good just had to use a little convincing with the hangers. Other than that it was great. I installed on the ground as well.
blakerj10 03-21-2005, 04:13 PM Anyone fit one of these kits to a two door blazer? I would assume a pick-up or sub. kit would fit as long as I shortened the straight peice enough. Might have to modify hangers but sounds like you all have to do that anyway?
ragtop rat 03-21-2005, 04:37 PM I'm also interested in the two door setup for a 94 yukon. What exactly is a piped through cat?
joispoi 03-21-2005, 05:15 PM a piped-through-cat is just what it says it is. It's a cat with a pipe running through it....more of a decoration for the emmissions tester than an actual piece of emmissions equipment....an artistic representation of a catalytic converter:cool:
nvmtnlion 03-21-2005, 10:25 PM I was advised that piping thru the cat was better for airflow than just gutting it. Besides, a piece of exhaust pipe is easy to bang through the honeycomb with a deadblow hammer http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/rockon.gif

Dave 2001 03-22-2005, 12:51 AM I never heard of this brand. Where can I get it?

DieselChick 03-22-2005, 09:50 AM I am new here so bare with me if you don't mind. I have a 95 6.5TD Ext. Cab. I pull a 26' gooseneck horse trailer with living quarters that when fully loaded with horses weighs in around 14,000# I want to do some modifications to the truck to make it pull better and get better mileage. It pulls the trailer find on rolling hills or flat but it does have difficulty on big hills. I was told to go to the cooling upgrade, the fan clutch and the bigger exhaust. Can anyone tell me how much this improves your pulling capablities. And can you tell me where the place that has the best price for the a good quality part. We were going to go to this SSDiesel but on other forums I have heard negative things about his stuff. What do you suggest?
GregAbell 03-22-2005, 11:10 AM I bought my Pinnacle 4" exhaust off of that auction site. Search for 6.5 diesel, then look for the picture of a 5" or 6" diameter muffler pointed toward the camera, showing a wide-open 4" straight through opening.

Besides the upgrades mentioned in this thread and others change your transmission fluid and filter and I would look at a deep transsmison pan that add 3-4 quarts more fluid to help keep the tranny cool. a few folks have had problems getting the SS exhaust to match up with the hangers. The Pinnical seems to match up better and good value at about $300 a bunch of folks have had real good luck with the Kennedy exhaust too and John is always willing to render any help need to get things right either here, phone or e-mail. Then the cooling upgrade John Kennedy proably has the best fan clutch is made to his specs, but since it's custom and smaller lots made it's a bit pricer but with your heavy trailer proably worth it. John also has a complete cooling upgrade kit. I pieced it all together with GM parts which his is and saved a few bucks but it's pretty convient. And with the cooling upgrade you might as well either change the time chain and gears out or go with the gear set which is more money but saves in ever having to change timing chain & gears again plus allows for closer IP timing. The timing set is behind the water pump so it's very little work or labor to have it done when you change the water pump. The gear set is ~$200 more than a time chain & gears. Then if you have any money left put gages in then you can ad a power chip the most popular are the Heath & Kennedy and John say his is best and Bill says his is best and most people that have gotten either seem happy. So for a pretty good chunk of change you can tow happly over hill and dale.
What is your axel Ratio? Is your 2500 a heavy or standard? (6 or 8 nuts on wheel 8 = heavy)
ragtop rat 03-22-2005, 04:14 PM Thanks for the info on the piped thru cat.I just removed it because it was so sooted up that the truck would'nt even run beyond idle. I live in e-check land and probably need the cosmetic fooler.I've been trying to trouble shoot my performance problems for weeks thinking fuel or wastegate problem until I read a post on clogged soot trap.I still have excessive smoke on startup however the truck is driveable and runs better than it has for a long time.Is there any problem with running only down pipe until I can fix cat?
CanadianRigger 03-22-2005, 05:00 PM Your only problem with running just the downpipe is going deaf.
jmkglloyd 03-22-2005, 05:57 PM just checked out the Pinnacle Exhaust and they're wanting 480 bills for the truck exhaust unless you have a burb which is running $350. Still looking for a better deal....

I know they where running a special at Pinnacle a couple of months ago but they must have ended it. Last week I saw a Pinnacle exhaust on E-bay and I think it had a buy in now of $290 and sound like it was a dealer who had them for all types of trucks.
:grd: Okay I just looked on the Pinnacle site at: http://www.pinnaclepowerexhaust.com/ And they are showing the Duramax at $300 I e-mail them a while back and they said they would do the 6.5 at the same price then, e-mail then and see if they still will.
CentralFLNative 03-23-2005, 12:02 AM I am ordering my exhaust from SSDiesel this week. I looked at the pictures of their hangers and agree that they won't work for my truck. I emailed Pinnacle and asked if they would sell me just the hangers from their kit. They agreed and I ordered my hanger kit earlier today.
Figured it was worth the money to save the aggravation.
ChevyDave 03-23-2005, 12:53 PM I never heard of this brand. Where can I get it?
I bought mine off eBay from a guy in Idaho if youlike I will can send you his email. I think I paid around $340 including shipping. Pinnacle/Jardine
Dave 2001 03-23-2005, 07:50 PM Thanks Chevy Dave. I just ordered mine of the same guy on Ebay. I got it for $300 buy it now and $58 shipping. I hope it bolts up as easy as everyone says it does.
ChevyDave 03-23-2005, 07:58 PM No problem I hope you like it, I love mine
CentralFLNative 03-24-2005, 06:46 PM I ordered my exhaust yesterday from SSDieselSupply. Apparently their exhaust kits are made by Heartthrob. Looks like I will get it in time to install next weekend. I'll let ya'll know how the hangers work out.

The instructions that came with my kit where from heartthrob...
quantum mechanic 03-24-2005, 10:17 PM just checked out the Pinnacle Exhaust and they're wanting 480 bills for the truck exhaust unless you have a burb which is running $350. Still looking for a better deal....21st century exhaust has the flowmaster kit for $85. Chop the flange off(if you want) and buy a joint of 3" exhaust at the local muffler shop, have them expand the downpipe to fit over the straightpipe and have them bend a 10* bend in the end for a turn down. Cheap and turbo whine. I paid $25 for the straight pipe and put it on myself. Total $110 :secret:
jmkglloyd 03-25-2005, 05:17 AM the only problem i have are the bends over the axle. i need full articulation of the axle for my off-road ventures.
quantum mechanic 03-25-2005, 08:47 AM Over the axle costs more and is inheriently more restrictive. Go 4" if you're wraping the axle.
