By this time we all know about the ally in cold weather, well i was a victim of this. I was told i was getting a new ally because the old one was completely toast. Got about 10k on it and started having problems. Just had a sun coast stage 4 done by Ted at MPL( thanks Ted so far its pretty good) and when disasembling the stock trans phoned me and told me that it was a remanufactured trans, which the GM dealership told me nothing about, worse then that though Ted had found that 2 steels and 2 fibers were together in the clutches. He also found that they used an incorrect snap ring on the backing plate or whatnot. Hows that for a new rebuilt GM Ally?

Accidents and mistakes happen, sorry about the bad luck. Also all allys installed under warranty are reman, no way around that i am afraid.

If I would have known they were putting in a remaned trans I would have just saved myself the hassle of waiting for 2 months before I got the truck back and woulda got the trans built properly with the orginal casing

Very true. It is impossible to buy a NEW Allison unless you buy a new truck.

Really? Why was the tranny replaced in the first place? I mean the first one.

My trucks Ally was warrantied at 18,000. They rebuilt it at the dealer. I saw it apart & my buddy worked there too. They rebuilt it free, not a reman.

The 2006's introduced a new warmup feature that locks the trans input shaft to load the converter and make heat to warmup the trans, engine and cab. This works great as long as there's flow through the cooling system. Unfortunately, at the same time GM switched fluid to DEX6 which is much thicker at -40 and below than the DEX3 was and the trans aux cooler was made twice as long with one fewer plate. This results in no cooler flow for a long time. The converter gets really hot, sometimes breaks the pump gears. This is not something that many in the lower 48 would see as you typically have to be colder than the trans is rated (-40) for this to happen.
