It's good stuff for the most part that has poor marketing and advertising practices. The whole "pyramid" marketing scheme doesn't do a whole lot for credibility, in my opinion.

I went with Delvac because I wanted a 5-40W synthetic specifically designed for diesels, but I don't think you'd go wrong at all with the Series 3000 5-30W from Amsoil. I've read lots of good stuff about it.

I have it in my engine, tranny and front & rear diffs. I use the following in mine:

Engine 15w-40 Diesel Oil with AMSOIL remote bypass oil filters
Tranny Torque-Drive ATF fluid
Transfer Case Torque-Drive ATF fluid
Diffs 75w-90 Extreme Gear Oil

I do notice that since changing the transmission fluid the temp for the tranny seems to be about 10 degrees cooler. I have not pulled a trailer since changing it so I do what kind of differance it will make there.

Hope this helps.

The only fluid that they do not make an equivalent for is the transfer case so I have the GM Auto Trak II in it.
Brad
Brad, you have the wrong lube in your transfer case if you are using Auto Trak II. Auto Trak II is only for the full-time select drive transfer cases in the 1500 Tahoes and Suburbans (they contain clutches). For all of our chain-drive transfer cases the correct lube is Dex III or equivalent ATF. I have Amsoil Syn ATF in my trans and my transfer case. You need to swap to ATF and your Torque-Drive would probably be fine.

Now this is interesting. I just double checked the 05 manual and it calls for Auto-Trak II for and automatic 4wd transfer case. It calls for Dex III for a manual transfer case and for transfer case on an AWD.

It has not been in mine long however I would like to make sure it is correct. According to the manual it takes Auto-Trak II anyone else with an 05 say anything different?

Thanks
Brad

check the manual again , I think you will find that you have an electronic transfer case , not an automatic transfer case. The electric has 3 buttons on the dash , the auto has 4 . Idle Chatter is correct about the fluids . Hope this helps , let us know

BradThis has been a continuing issue of confusion - our Duramax transfer cases are _manual_ push button selected. Our transfer case is the NVG 263-NP1 Selectable. The service manual calls for Dexron III Oil, GM P/N 12346143. NVG 236/246-NP8 Two Speed Automatic is the only version of transfer case calling for Auto-Trac II fluid. I had it in my 1999 6.5TD 1500 Tahoe. There was a large round "Auto" button at the top of the dash selection buttons. In Auto mode, there's a clutch pack engaged when rear wheel slip is sensed to supply drive torque to the front axles. Interestingly, of the four possible transfer cases, three out of four have Dex III specified (including the NVG 149-NP One Speed Automatic and the NVG 261-NP2 Two Speed Manual.)

Thanks Idle Chatter for helping me to clear this up. What you are saying makes sense now that even tough it is a push button it is still a manually controlled transfer case. As dumb as I feel about doing that I am glad I posted it and got it cleared up prior to doing any damage. Fortunately I did this just last week so I have less than 100 miles on the truck with the wrong flud in it. After doing a search here for Auto-Trak II it seems others have made the same mistake.

Thanks again.

One of those listed vendors that is a dealer runs Mobile Delvac1 in his D-max if that tells you anything...IMO AMS isn't worth the headache you get from their poorly run business when Mobile is readily available at local retailers....<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I don't think you've run any great risk to your transfer case, Brad. I'm sure that the Auto Trac II has sufficient lubricating qualities, it just has friction modifiers added for the clutch pack in the automatic cases. Do be aware that you are going to see a lot of metallic "glitter" in your transfer case fluid any time that you change it - it's normal for the chain and sprocket system in the NVG. Don't feel alone, the poorly worded Owner's Manual continues to lead to confusion on this particular issue - glad to help.

Looks like I've made this mistake too, with the help of my dealer, twice. The first time I changed it, I noticed the oil was red like DEXIII. I change this yearly, both times, two different dealers told me it was AutoTrak II. Hope I havent damaged anything.

Hey, same here on the confusion. Thankfully, these guys got me straightened out.

If your going to make a mistake, it is better to put the AutoTrac fluid in a manual transfer case than putting DexIII in an AutoTrac case.

My Mother used Amway products since our pastors wife sold it and it helped the family out. Just never could get over the stigmatism about a toilet bowl cleaner company making synthetic oils for cars/trucks.

I’ll stick with a company who’s business it is to MAKE OIL. Mobil 1 in all my cars trucks.

On the underside of rear gussit, my 2002 D/A NP263 Electronic Shift Transfer Case is a yellow 1" by 3" sticker that states, "Dextron IIE or III ATF".
