I have just bought a used turbo for my 1995 6.5 diesel. The seller told me I need to prime the turbo before starting the motor. Does anyone know what this means? How do I prime the turbo?

Well, the only thing that I can think of is they want you to get oil into the turbo's bearings so that it doesn't start dry. If you are removing a turbo, and reusing the oil line, then there should be oil in that line. You could just slowly pour oil into the inlet for a little while maybe spin it a little by hand while doing that. I have also heard of people holding the turbo, preventing it from spinning, and put the oil feed line in a bucket or something, and start the engine until oil comes out. Then shut off the engine and attach the line to the turbo. (I myself don't think that is necessary)

I would put some oil in it before starting so that it's not dry.

Priming a turbo is the same as priming an engine, you're filling the oil passages with oil.

How you do so is totally different.

My new GM-8 came with an instruction card.

Right after bolting everything back up, PRIOR to attatching the oil feed, and oil drain, send a LITTLE amount of oil through the turbo through the feed until oil drips out the oil return. All primed and done, a few spins won't hurt either.
