I'm used to running the Edge at level 3 so it's time to start thinking about a transmission upgrade and then turn the power up a few notches. I would like to keep the shift firmness as close to stock as possible. Don't want to feel the transmission going into each gear. I'm very happy with the seemless shifts of the stock tranny. Will this be possible? I'm probably going to go with some of the Suncoast transmissions. The truck is used for normal driving and to tow my 10,000lb+ car hauler.

I'm curious about this too, especially since there appears to be a Suncoast dealer over in Ft.Walton Beach,FL.

Dealer is not quite the word. That is the mothership for Suncoast. :ro)

The Suncoast has great street manners. It shifts nice and smooth, keeping the stock feel. When you pour the coal to it the trans clicks off the shifts firmly and quickly just like it should. It is an excellent daily driver.

My SunCoast 5 shifts near stock when driven normally ...however once you get on the go pedal it clicks shifts on nice and firm ...but not harsh.

I think your goal might be unrealistic to keep the stock seamless shifts while towing.

wether it be from extra clutches, more pressure or what have you, in order for the Allison to live the seamless 'slip into engagement' will have to be sacrificed some.

If i drive my DTT while towing livestock for example, you can feel the upshifts about 15% more than my brothers stock trannied DMX with the same load/power level.

Driving normal around town, my upshifts and downshifts remain at the same level, but the stock DMX feels 'loose and sloppy and lazy'

I do not have an answer for you, other than if you want to play at that level while towing, you will need to compromise something. There is no free ride.

The DTT trans mod will not be for everyone. Bill and I discussed this and he agreed. Some people do not want firm shifts and you don't have to have them to get a strong Ally. I myself do not want a firm shift and do not feel it is necessary. Some people do not mind the firm shift and that is fine. I feel a quick shift is the ultimate shift. I want my shifts to be so quick they light up the tires but you don't feel it. I am sure Bill wants this also. If everything goes as planned I will be installing a stage 2 in a couple of weeks.

I understand.

I just think it would be a tall order to get any trans to shift like stock all the time while towing... especially with more power.

Most of my towing time is spent in 5th gear on the highway so a little firmer when I have a trailer behind me would be ok but I don't want to feel the shifts during normal, unloaded travel. Just want it to be able to handle alot more power all around with no concerns.

Based on my experience so far, I think a Suncoast III setup would suit your needs well. My Alli is still learning what the hell just happened to it, especially in Tow/Haul, but it feels like a stock tranny as far as drivability goes. As other have mentioned, it's a very streetable setup that isn't some type of "race only" application.

dont know about the dtt but between suncoast and ats the suncoast wins for like stock shifting, with the ats and copilot there is always a crap shift once in a while, and yes i have spent time in a ats co-pilot truck, and if the co pilot is off and you are running say over 100 hp as a normal driving settup the shifts are all mushy feeling to me.however on performance aspects the ats with co pilot is hard to beat....however the last version joe at suncoast made for us is handling the power and the shifts are smoking...

Isn't the Suncoast shifting attributed to the Transgo parts? Or is there something I'm missing?
