How does the licence plate bulb/socket assembly on '03 rear bumper come appart for bulb replacement? Twist? Pry? Tight dirty quarters for big paws and I don't want to break the plastic socket/bracket.
(and yes I did a search with no luck)

Pry it out gently, lightbulb side first, with a small screw driver.

From behind the bumper, 1/8 CCW and pull out. The lense assy stays.
BTW, the bulb is a 194.

1/8 CCW, I assume is 1/8 turn Counter Clock Wise "eh".

Yup....IIRC, they are unisex and can rotate either way, although CCW is a habit.
