hello
we have a 98 chevy 1ton cube van with the 6.5L TD and over 200K. The 'check throttle' warning lit on the instrument panel and the we lost throttle control. The engine would only idle. Shut off, restart, everything was fine. This happened 3 or 4 times. We checked the codes and got P1125 history code which is the accelerator pedal position sensor.
For me, this would be case closed and I would order the part $600CDN. (comes with throttle pedal, weird!) but the GM dealer where I order my parts from said something that made me have some second doubts about the diagnosis and want to post here for some feedback. He said that he has 'NEVER' sold that part. Never heard of one going bad.

Am I starting a wild goose chase here? I checked the forums and, like the dealer said, did not find anybody that had a throttle problem that a new APP sensor fixed.

Any advice appreciated.

thanks.

That code and complaint can be one of 3 things. The pedal sensor, the PCM or a wiring problem. 600 for the pedal, atleast twice that for the computer, wiring harnesses are RIDICULOUSLY expensive. I'd buy a some dielectric grease and try cleaning up the contacts on the pedal sensor and the ECM and maybe borrow someones or buy a used pedal sensor.

will clean up connections. we've already decided to just get the pedal assembly from a junkyard and try it.

thanks.

There's a company here in Houston called M & D distributing that carries just the electronic part for $200. They're a national distributor of electronic diesel injection parts. I'd imagine that any supplier of eletronic diesel injection parts will have a line on it.

It what you don't know that you come here for.

I didn't think there would be any non oem sources for something like this. I'll do some digging.

thanks.

M&D distributes just about everything you can imagine, They were our distributor for Bosch/Delphi/Stanadyne etc. Odds are, it is an OEM part, these guys are HUGE!

appreciate the info.

if I do end up getting an app sensor from a scrapyard though, what year range can I go by. Can I use only one from a 1998 model vehicle? If not, what year ranges can I go by?

thanks.
