: 19.5 steels
kneedrager428 11-02-2008, 06:08 PM Not sure if this should be here or in the wheel section, but it is dually specific.
I want 19.5s. I don't want to pay 270 a piece for Rickson's steel bolt ons.
Anyone have info on cheaper 19.5 steel bolt on wheels? I don't care if I have to run sims or trim rings and my stock center caps.
I can get Dayton 245/70/19.5 for 175 mounted and road force balanced. Now I just need a good deal on the wheels.
There is a set of Eagle wheels for sale in the for sale section.

I was the last post.... He hasn't replied...
Q101ATFD 11-02-2008, 07:51 PM Not sure if you can get an adapter, or a new axle rod or whatnot, but the 'classic' 1988-2001 dually trucks had 19.5" steelies with 10 bolt holes. Those are all over the place at the junkyards.
LtEng5 11-03-2008, 11:21 PM check with rv junk yards, have heard that some of the 70's and into the 80's smaller rv's have these wheels from the "factory" to hold the weight

Center bore is smaller. The older GMs have 4.56 hub bore.
01 and up have 4.60. Why the hell did they have to change the size???? Small difference but they will require machining to fit.
LtEng5 11-04-2008, 01:52 PM if you can find'em and have'm machined it is still cheaper than new ones from rickson
Q101ATFD - you're thinking of the 3500HD trucks whick are basically 4500 trucks with the LD cab and lower ride hieght. very similar to what furd is doing now. why gm ever stopped this line is a mystery. made for a lot of good work trucks, wreckers and such.
rvtime 11-04-2008, 05:34 PM I would stick w/Rickson if your after all steel wheels.I had 19.5 Alcoas on mine w/steel inners that I got from a used wheel guy.I paid almost the same as the wheel from Rickson. The people at Rickson know their stuff,if you get their steel wheels have them send the correct stems that go w/their wheel.Be careful w/ the hub center your bolt pattern is 8/6.5 but not all 8/6.5's have the same hub center.American Force in Fl. have some nice 19.5 direct bolt package deals...
blksmok 11-04-2008, 05:39 PM X2 on buying from Rickson. The first set of inner steels was not from Rickson and the hub bore was too big. I had a vibration that I could not get rid of.
Went with the Rickson inner steels (correct hub bore) and it's good now.
Renntag 11-10-2008, 05:42 PM Is there a major performance benefit with the 19.5" wheels/tires over the 16" stock size?
Is there a limited tire selection for 19.5?

1) Well for 1 the tires are either 12 (f) or 14 (g) ply and the wheels are a much higher weight capacity also. (peace of mind with alot of weight on truck & trailer)
2) Tires I have heard will last from 100000 to 150000 miles.... Little bit longer than the E rated that come on them. I plan to keep my LLY for a long time so it is worth it to me.
3) Most commercial 19.5s are re-groovable. when they are low on tread they can have new grooves cut in them once. Then they can be recapped after they wear out again.
4) They look bad ass, these things should come stock with 19.5s IMO why GM stopped offering the HDs with 19.5 is beyond me...
Renntag 11-10-2008, 08:20 PM What does it usually cost for 19.5 tires and wheels? If they last 100K miles, I guess you could look at the cost per mile and decide which set up is more cost effective.
If the weight capacity is much greater with the 19.5 inchers, that is good enough for me. I am hauling 18,000# with a GN trailer. A tire failure at speed could be lethal. If these heavier tires are less likely to fail, sounds great to me.

Depends on what brands you go with.
prices are approx for 6 wheel set
MKW wheels 1950 6 all aluminum
Ricksons 22-2600 4 al 2 steel
Vision 1400 4 al 2 steel
american force 1900 4 al 2 steel
Tires are the same range.
Dayton 245/70/19.5 $150
Kelly 8r 19.5 $150
Kumho 245/70/19.5 $230
Michelin 245/70/19.5 $320
Renntag 11-11-2008, 01:24 AM Its potentially 3-4 grand. Anyone know if mileage is decreased with the heavier wheel set?

Do this tires center by the hub bore?... I mean if they don't center that way I could machine them at home with my plasma cutter mounted on something fixed and spining the rim.
Any thoughts?
