I took these pics a couple of hours ago. If you think you have smoke on startup i think i have you all beat....lol

Cough, hack, wheeze ... You got me beat. too. Mine does that too (almost as much) if I forget plug her in at that temp. Struggles to start too. Dunno whether it's age or they all start hard in the cold. Alberta Rigger, what's the coldest your truck will start at?

Wow, thats pretty comparable to the smoke mine makes on cold startup. Its a relief to me to see a '00 truck do that, makes me feel a little better about my '94.

I think it has something to do with my slight miss when running, i just wish i had time to figure out what the miss is.

Before this woofing got worse my truck would start @ -30C no problem without being plugged in, now i'm not sure. Fired up after 5 seconds of cranking it in -10C this morning as pictured above. When time permits i may park it to tear into it and drive ole greeny for a week or two.

My 98 is very compareable during cold starts. When truck was new it would start at -35c - not plugged in. Different story now. Last week, the ice cream truck went by and my truck didn't start until it was plugged in. What causes this. I have had the glow plugs checked numerous times (a few fixes). Still it starts hard. Could this be a PMD issue? I have had some shutdown issues as of late.

Wonder if the starter motors get tired after a few years, and make cold starts harder. I put in new batteries 2 years / 25K miles ago; they shouldn't be a big factor.

Starter speed will only affect how long it takes to start, won't affect how the engine runs after it kicks.
I think CR is on the right track, mine started making a curious noise at idle, and cold start has been deteriorating at the same time. I have a dead miss on 2 cylinders when cold, takes a couple minutes to pick both of them up. I just did my injectors a couple weekends ago, and rechecked all of my new Glowplugs, but didn't make any difference. Heads are only a couple years old, so I suspect something deeper in the engine is the problem...:(

Geeze i'm hoping its no deeper than the heads on mine other wise it'll have to go to a shop for a complete rebuild, either that or a D'max will be next on my hit list.

Hmmmm....i wonder what i can do to the Acclaim....lol
