I just bought an 83 6.2 suburban and have never changed that kind of fuel filter before. What are the steps to do this? Thanks.

Early systems use 2 round filters later 1 square.

Early 1 st filter on fire wall, open the air bleed at the top and the water drain on the bottom with a catch container underneath. 2nd filter, remove air cleaner and the lines to the filter adapter. Remover adapter and filter then remove the filter. Pre fill filters with clean fuel and clean mounting areas and reassemble in reverse. Open the air bleed on the first filter and unplug the pink wire on the IP and crank in 20 sec sessions till air free fuel comes out the bleeder. Plug in the IP and expect it to run like a dog for a while till all the air is out of the system.

Later, open air bleed and water drain into catch container. Remove the bails that hold the filter to the adapter. Clean mounting areas and install filter. Open the air bleed and unplug the IP and crank in 20 sec sessions till air free fuel comes out the bleeder. Close the bleeder and do 3 - 4 more crank sesions to fill the filter. Plug in the IP and expect it to run like a dog for a while till all the air is out of the system.

There is other ways to bleed the air out. My personal way is to put 5 psi air to the tank and splitting the return system with the tank side plugged to speed bleeding. Hope that helps and check out the FAQ for more info.
