I may be the last one to the party on this......
Acetone totally cleaned up my weather-faded tail lights. I had the acetone out to clean off a small spot of latex paint. I quickly noticed that the spot looked nice and clean. I soaked the rag heavy and went to town. It can sag the plastic a bit if you hit it too heavy. The tail lights look pretty good now. Certainly better than they did before.

Regular polishing compound works also without the risk of taking the clearcoat off the surrounding paint.

I took both the tail lights off to work on them. I don't carry polishing compound in my garage as a standard item. Most people do have acetone sitting around, however. I was just about to drop the hammer on a replacement set because they were so clouded. They really look great. I even cleaned up my faded front turn signals. :D

I used the white turdle wax polishing compound by hand and then wizzards final cut[ similar to 3m finness-it] with a foam pad on a buffer. Shines better than new
