I just got my Duramax and am considering using SPF and their Lubricity. I would like to know from other D/A owners if they use it and your feelings of how it is serving your needs.
Thanks
Bob

I use it at recommended dosage all the time.
When dynoing I add 1 bottle to 4 gallons of diesel

Fuel mileage increase? Never seen one on summer fuel, but it does help on winter blend.

I figure for the little it costs it is well worth the price in lieu of injector replacement.

Just my .001

use it with every fill up. I agree on the injector comment above..

I run it every tank and have no complaints, although I can't really swear it's doing all kinds of wonderful things for my pump, injectors, etc. It may improve my mileage very slightly, but that's not a real set-in-stone sort of thing either.

Bottom line: I don't think you'll go wrong running the Stanadyne--I like it, I think it's a good idea, and it somewhat tames my anal nature and helps me sleep a little better at night. I've also had good luck with FPPF and Power Service.

The flip side: I'm about as fussy with my truck as anyone I personally know. I try to ensure that my fuel is fresh and clean (I run a 2 micron secondary filter along with the "new and improved" stock filter as well as a 10 micron filter on my bulk fuel tank, I use an additive every tank, etc., etc. My dad does none of this. He has never had an injector problem in 4 years and 60 some thousand miles. My truck puked the #3 injector in a matter of months. Go figure!

forgot to mention...Stanadyne is the only additive that is backed and approved by GM for use in the Duramax.

That's inferring a bit too much.forgot to mention...Stanadyne is the only additive that is backed and approved by GM for use in the Duramax. From the TSB:

Only alcohol free water demulsifiers should be used in General Motors diesel engines. Both *RacorŽ and *StanadyneŽ diesel fuel additives are alcohol free and utilize water demulsifiers to cope with water in the fuel. Other brands may be available in different areas; be sure that they clearly state that they are alcohol free demulsifiers before use.

Anyway I use Stanadyne too. I note no noticeable difference in the truck's performance. I use the additive primarily for the lubricity.

I use it at every fill up. It doesn't cost that much and I don't put that many miles on (12-18,000 miles/yr)

I used SPF for about the first 5K. Had no problems but didn't like the smell of it and the unavailability in our area. Switched to Power Service for the last 5K and haven't noticed a difference since the switch and PS is much less expensive. My .02

I also use it at every fill up and chose them because they were only one of two additives mentioned in a GMTSB. I just did my first fuel filter change yesterday at 5k and did not see any rust that others are seeing in some cases. I have not really noticed any increase in mileage either.

I have used SPF in the past, now I run SPF Jr.. My truck seems to like it better, it's cheaper, and treats more gallons of fuel than SPF. I save a couple of bottles of SPF for the few freezes we have here.

thanks for the TSB quote.. I was only going off of what a Duramax Mechanic told me when my truck was in for service. he never mentioned Racor as another approved additive. cool

There are some posts on this site saying the GM Tech Line recommended adding Stanadyne to cure smoking issues due to sticking injectors on new trucks. This was a California issue related to the low sulfer fuel. Although initially doubting that it would fix the problem, several members reported back saying it worked. That indicates to me that the lubrication claims has some validity.

I've been using the Performance formula, but am thinking about switching to the Jr line. It costs about 1/3 that of the Performance formula. They are the same except that that the Performance product has a centane booster and has cold weather protection. Cold weather is not an issue for my area, and the mileage improvement had been at most, .2 mpg.

My truck started to do the whole knock, stumble and smoke thing with only 7k miles on it......dealer couldnt do anything about it and said it was bad fuel....the more I read here the more i learned I wasnt the only one having this problem.....The truck now has 24k on it and I have not had 1 issue with it at all......I run it in everytank........

Use Stanadyne with every fill. Seems like cheap insurance and is approved by GM. Don't know where to get Racor other than via order over net.
