smokin139 10-31-2008, 02:28 AM Any tips on this? i know it cant be good for just about anything but neither is the way i drive it :D. run into alot of people who think there the shit, and racing has been done. i really wanna show whos who around here.
bogger 10-31-2008, 05:12 AM it's dumb and pointless try something different
Brier1 10-31-2008, 07:55 AM :agreed::badidea: for the love of god, love your truck....
Dont use chain . Use 6in strap .Hitch height and weight dont get over anxious with the power either .NLDP

We use a heavy cable that's from a rigging setup.
Good advice on technique.
Only part you left out - MAKE SURE YOU VIDEO IT!:D
duramaxsandwich 10-31-2008, 11:57 AM stay close to home so when it breaks you can get home easy.
JustinD 10-31-2008, 12:02 PM Don't do it........if you screw up a stock Ford/Dodge will pull you all over the place. How embarrasing!!!!

Wasn't your brothers lb7 hooked to a black crew cab f350 6.0 psd when the ford shattered a Dana 60 stub shaft?
madmatt 10-31-2008, 06:31 PM HOOK HIGH!!! I broke lots of diesel powered hearts w/ my 460 powered F350. hand'em their end first and give'em one hook. Once they hook, throw the tailgate off and hook to the gooseneck ball!!!!!
smokin139 10-31-2008, 07:18 PM well i always tell people lets hook, and no one ever does. but when someone does, i wanna be able to put them in there place. racing works, just get in more trouble with the cops that way, and i got enough tickets. i would assume torsion springs down, but weight is gonna be your best friend in a pull.
Newer style trucks don't do well at this, a strap is a must no chains. Good luck get some video
smokin139 11-01-2008, 12:17 PM why a strap? or whats wrong with chains?
cpr_454 11-01-2008, 05:04 PM why a strap? or whats wrong with chains?
Chains break and take peoples heads off...period. On a lighter note hooking trucks is pointless and DUMB:confused:
JustinD 11-01-2008, 05:54 PM You have a better chance winning a race with a Duramax vs. PowerJoke or Cummins, but hooking chains.........Ford and Dodge are heavier. Better chance of dragging your truck! Don't do it.......save yourself the embarrasment!!!!

X2...
Couldn't said it better..
badbowtie169 11-02-2008, 01:20 AM if your going to do it the biggest thing is you want your hitch higher than whoever your pulling against and air down the tires. slow and steady either stay on your throttle or the brakes,
dieselguy 11-02-2008, 01:41 AM Yeh these events are nice for the egos but it really doesnt prove a thing win or lose. I never have based the value off a truck on what I win or lose in drag racing, sled pulling or hooking chains. I am a bit in to truck pulling an do it for fun. If i win great. If I lose thats fine to I do it for the fun off it. GTG with your buddies who love to do the same thing an have a good time. One night I could be first the next night last. Doesnt mean a thing. Or prove anything. If people have such an ego that they think there truck is really something special. Somebody will bring them down to earth very fast. Forget this idea man. Doesnt prove a thing.
Talon 22 11-02-2008, 08:35 AM Guys, remember if not one encourages anyone to do this we won't have anyone to watch and this shit is funny as hell!!! It's a great way to break and wreck a truck and everyone loves a little distruction lol.
Hook high, weight forward, tires down, but the best thing to do is sit back and watch. The true pro's in any game don't do silly embarrasing things like this. That just ruins their class. It's not classy to be cocky.
smokin139 11-02-2008, 01:22 PM true true true, i know that if i hook with a ford or dodge the have more weight. im just waiting for the dummy who thinks there 1500 truck is the shit, and ill just pull them in 2 wheel drive :D prolly will never happen, just wanted to know. and i need to know how if i want other people to do it :D
cpr_454 11-03-2008, 11:45 AM This was a dumb topic from the start of this thread and it still has not got any smarter as it has gone on!!
hondarider552 11-03-2008, 03:35 PM All hooking proves is who weighs more and who has better traction.. Since the OP has a chevy, expect to loose everytime against a dodge or ford. Pointless and stupid IMO

Dont have your hopes up, i once saw a avalance walk away with a cummins dually. anything can happen.

ha, and you said weight would win everytime :D
f250powerhouse 11-04-2008, 11:58 AM Hooking back to back isn't the smartest thing to do, but it will give you bragging rights if done in front of a bunch of people and of course if you win. Most people who say this is stupid are people who are scared, or can't afford to break things.;)

Dont forget i said anything can happen. A geo might get your ass.:D

that's right i'll hook my truck to anything that will let me hook to it big or small
any thing can be fix have fun with it
thejdman04 11-07-2008, 10:01 AM Weight and traction are the biggest factors, not horsepower, it really doesnt prove all that much
Papuller86 11-07-2008, 12:40 PM from experence dont do it

Alright, all you dads out there. If it comes down to it, he's gonna do it, so give him tips instead of warning him. Everyone knows it breaks parts, but parts can be fixed or replaced. Some people are into that (like me). He already said he drives like a maniac, anyway. And like Powerhouse said, it doesn't prove anything, but when you win in front of a crowd, its the coolest thing around.
You want a tip about hooking up? The best thing to do is go to YouTube. There are literally thousands of videos of this in action with all kinds of trucks, and you can see the similarities of all the drivers and trucks that win. Tip: the ones that usually lose floor it immediately and do a burnout while being dragged.
And BTW, in that video, is that a gasser Z71 with stacks...Good Lord.

hahaha, thats great
Z71 Grizzly 11-08-2008, 10:34 PM Don't do it unless you like to replace broken parts. I hooked to my friends 05 Dodge 4dr shrt bed last weekend and he has 35's. He has Bank's stuff on his also. Says he weighs about 7600 compared to my 7k. I know I shouldn't have done it and now that i did, I know now that I definitely shouldn't have. The front right unit bearing was on it's way out according to my one friend who helped me replace the stuff Sunday on his lift.
maxedout_1 11-09-2008, 08:04 AM Theres so many things you should and shouldnt do,but I seen a 1500 extcb sb dodge w/360 drag a 2500 reg cab cummins and a 3500 reg cab dooley v10 dodge. This happened the same night then a boy in a F150 reg cab sb drug the boy in the dodge 1500.So does weight really matter? It helps but ,If I wouldnt have seen it I wouldnt believe it.If u do it use a strap take ur tailgate off in case strap breaks and dont get greedy with the peddle and really turn truck back to stock.Traction is key, like the other guy said a geo could pull a ton truck if he gets his tires spiinin to much.Do it in dirt,no asphalt this is were ya break. But if ya start to hop let out, bout the only way Ive seen drivline parts break in dirt.Have fun
Papuller86 11-17-2008, 08:01 PM :eek:And BTW, in that video, is that a gasser Z71 with stacks...Good Lord.
he broke the front drivers side drive shaft
mikey04hd 11-18-2008, 02:10 AM just stay on the brake til they brake the tires loose and slowly creep forward WITHOUT breaking traction...
cpr_454 11-18-2008, 02:54 PM and the truck goes BOOM....and the driver goes SH*T!!:D
JustinD 11-18-2008, 03:44 PM and the truck goes BOOM....and the driver goes SH*T!!:D
It will start wheel hopping first......then BOOM and then the driver goes SH*T!!..:D
black4x4 11-18-2008, 08:29 PM set the truck like your pullin sled. if you way more then the other it help high hitch helps. pull on pavement or concrete easier on stuff then dirt. I wouldn't do the just hold your brakes and wait for the other guy to spin if your close in weight and the other guy has a clue you'll loose. and don't overlook anyone you challenge.
RedHotGMC 11-21-2008, 08:31 PM holy crap im laughin so hard at those mowers pullin. thats awesome. Go for it. The man wants to do it. he didnt ask anyone to talk him out of it he wants tips and advice.
x MadMAX DIESEL 12-13-2008, 07:02 PM only thing i can say is get on the brakes hard, and wait for the other idiot to go, stay on ur brakes till he loses traction then start givin throttle real slow and ull drag his as backwards while hes meltin his tires... go to youtube and type poor boyz racin, thats me and my bro hookin em.. we quit early casue none of us wanted to break anything hahaa
