Last month I purchased an '05 2500HD Duramax with 62k miles on it. I just now looked at the hours and it shows 2,800 hours. Is this possible?? Is there any way for the dealer to dial the miles back? I just want to make sure I wasn't duped by the dealership.

Thanks for any input.

That is an average of 22.14 mph. I think some was sitting a round for a long time with the engine running.

there's an issue with the hours resetting and doing odd things.. search for hours reset and you'll find others having similar issues. Some zero out, others change.. voltage problem with the cluster, some are under warranty.

Mine worked fine until about 170k miles. Accidentally left my laptop plugged in overnight and drained the batteries dead. Charged them and re-installed and noticed the hour meter had reset. Now it seems to reset itself about once a week. 181k miles and about 20 hours.

My average isn't much "faster". I forget exactly, but I think I'm around 35K miles and 1200 hours. This is a higher average, but still under 30 MPH. Small town and not many highway hours will do it.

I have 35K miles and 1264 hours or about 27 and half MPH average. I don't idle much and about 40% of the miles are towing at about 65 MPH.

Sounds like you are in the ballpark for usage. Especially if the truck was used for general purpose driving and has some around town miles.

Hi
A little off topic but here goes, Im looking at a 2005 D/Max CC SB it has 66000Km's about 45000 mi. How do I check the hour meter when I go see the truck? Im looking for the procedure, Do you have to reset something on the Cluster ?

Thanks

You just push the trip button and it will scroll through trip, odometer and hours.

Ok now I`m really confused...? I just bought a 2004.5 Duramax with 95K miles but only 1185 hours...? I was told it was mainly all highway miles so what or how do you figure the average MPH...? thanks...

I think it's safe to say that any hour meter reading you come across that averages over 45 mph is bogus. Too many of these things are re-setting and are inaccurate.

Most of us who use these trucks for over the road work, are seeing in the neighborhood of 40-45mph averages, when the meter was working properly.

I believe the second battery gettn' disconneced will reset the hourmeter. I had over 2000 while working for the oilfield. Then replaced both batteries. Next time i looked i was at 1100. WTF:wtf:
