: ReGen????
street3285 10-29-2008, 11:41 PM My truck today started sounding a little different..... the exhaust was a little more throaty than before. The average MPG on the DIC went down about .6 MPG, just from driving home. It also shook a little more when I went to turn it off.... like the idle was a bit higher.
Is this what happens when it goes into re-gen? Does it just start sucking the fuel? It is an 08 LMM.
usafracer 10-30-2008, 01:14 AM Yep sounds like you were in a regen.

Yup! Extra fuel is needed to heat up the DPF.
street3285 10-30-2008, 10:52 AM That sucks..... I got home and then left 1/2 hour later, and it was still doing it. Once the warranty is up, the DPF will be gone. Thanks guys.

If the regen didn't complete when you shut down, it will start up again when you restart the truck, after it gets up to temperature. Take it for a 20 - 30 minute drive and it'll finish.

You can cut the regen time down to 10 miles even stopping and restarting by deleting the muffler with a 4" pipe in place like this.
Since I done mine(5 regens about every 365 miles) the regen has never lasted more that 10 miles driving around town. And it won`t void your warranty.
DSTRBD 10-30-2008, 04:31 PM Depends on the dealer. Some of them have a problem with any mods to the exhaust. Hell, some have a problem with aftermarket floor mats!:D
badinblack 10-30-2008, 04:51 PM Regen for sure. I was gonna wait the 5 years til the warranty is up, but cant wait that long. Sick of the smell and the milage, not to mention the looks of the trumpet.
Just need some cash and the DPF is a goner:eek:
street3285 10-30-2008, 05:29 PM I already ditched the muffler...... I guess the DPF just started to fill up from new, because this is the second it has done it since I got it. I only have 2300 miles on it. It didnt do it for the first 2K miles. Got about 14/20 MPG

Yes it did. Only way I catch a regen is resetting the DIC MPG going down the freeway - S/B reading 22mpg - Reads 12 MPG = Regen. Only caught 2 in 15K but then I don't go looking for them. Great seamless system in my book.
Never smelled a regen. Those who say they are getting rid of the DPF for the smell are whack - then they will have a worse smell 24/7. :D

I`ll tell my wife your saying she is whacked.
This morning taking her to work she wanted to know what in the "HELL" was that stinken smell.
I just told her that was a gift complements from the epa.
If you are not smelling this when in regen you must be doing 80 +mph in a head wind on the highway,or your all stuffed up and in the need of some Nasonex.
Oh yah ! Why would there be a worse smell, not much could be worse than a regen making you and everyone else sick.
Diesel exhaust is not quite that bad.
Except if someone had a big stinky fart in the cab.
mbuckey 10-31-2008, 03:18 PM Even on powerstroke.org they are saying the duramaxes handle the epa emmissions systems the best, so just be glad the max mpg your getting isn't 14 all the time like them. My 4 inch turbo back and quad is 'in transit' to my house right now.

DRC -
So ditching the muffler cuts the regen process in 1/2? Never knew! Did you notice any difference in sound once you removed the muffler?
moto_209 11-02-2008, 01:14 PM Dont mean to ask a stupid question but what is this regen???? I have the 07.5 LMM motor what should i look out for?
Thanks-
MMLMM 11-02-2008, 01:19 PM Whats this ReGen you speak of?

;)
moto_209 11-02-2008, 01:20 PM Also they cant void your warranty because you put after market accessories on. Magnussens law or something. I just got my 04 F250 Lemon lawed they tried to say it was because of aftermarket stuff but they would have to have proove the after market muffler was causing a oil leak....

moto_209 11-02-2008, 01:20 PM I dont know what ever these guys are taliking about...

:)I have a thread under this one named "my first 18 regens" Regen is a prossess of burning the soot out of the DPF on you LMM diesel. Read my thread and it will help you understand more about it. If you dont have some kind of moniter
on your truck some people dont know it is in regen.:)
bondurch 11-04-2008, 08:14 PM I contemplate.... if black smoke is bad for the environment then what the heck are we breathing in during regens. It stinks and it can not be good for you.. Since it is soot being cooked out of a filter then there has to be some bad s*&%.

I installed the Banks Monster Exhaust on my '08 LMM; this completely deletes the muffler, with a larger diameter pipe from the DPF to the exhaust tip. I've had the truck in for the re-flash thingie, and again for another issue and the dealer didn't mention it. In fact, when I had the reflash done they disconnected the Banks tuner and reconnected it at no charge.
Just installing this exhaust would be a bigger improvement than just splicing in a section of pipe. Since installing the Banks tuner and pipe, I'm pretty sure I've only had two regens in the first month - six months ago. That may sound hard to believe, but I monitor the regens and haven't seen one since.
