here is my delma... got the new toy (6 inch lift 36 iroc's)... I drove it the other day.... the irocs are coming off!!!! but with the lift I had plan on putting at least 33's maybe 35's...... but it has 3.42 argggg I don't think the tranny is going into 4th at all at 55 mph...no the lift stays...
so what would I be looking as far as milage and power with 4.10's and a set of 35's ... I don't want to it to wind to tight running 70 mph but also don't want it lugging the tranny either... or would 3.73 be better???

You got a smiley face next to the 36 irocs in you sig, what went wrong? I ran a set of 36's on my Jeep and loved them. I'd say if you were going through the time/expense of a gear swap, to go at least 4.10's to keep you options open (towing, bigger tires down the road, etc...). Not sure how much "winding" a 6.2 likes though.

what you have 700r? if so 4.10's are perfect for 35's. cruise at the sweet range around 1800 rpm on the hiway. 3rd isn't wound out too much for towing, especially if your converter locks in 3rd. its about the same as factory on mine, 31's and 3.42's

well I like my 4wd to handle well as far as not darting on me... and these irocs are used so I'm getting a wondering truck and a non responsive steering I dont' like... my 35 on my dodge and ford handle better than these... one time I put a used set of 35 on my dodge and couldn't hold the road with it over 45 mph....
so 4:10 with 35 would be the sweet zone.. sound good I got 3 set of 4:10'S (3/4 ton axels) and a set of 35 mounted on 8 lug 15 inch wheels (special ordered for my ford) cost of the gear swapp wont be much I'll trun into a 3/4 ton burb just have to convert the front hubs from full time to lock out's...

Are the 36 Irocs bias or radials? Bias finds all the grooves in the road, wandering away. Radials (I had) tend to roll out a bit better. Either way, I wouldn't blame it all on the tires, especially in that generation of truck. Look at ball joints, wheel bearings, tie rod ends, drag link, pitman arm, steering box/mount at the frame, rag joint, steering stabilizer, alignment and air freshener; before faulting the tires. I still say go 4.10's at least, if you're going to turn a single wrench on the thing.

I don't think a set of 15" wheels is going to fit on a rear 3/4 ton axle. I believe that the drums are too big for them to clear so you may want to test fit them.
Now I think 4.10s are a good choice for 35" tires. My truck is geared with 4.10 and I have 235/85 size tire (31") and 70 mph is where the engine really starts to scream which is about 3000rpms I would like 3.73s.

15s will fit over a 14 bolt drum with no problems.

Good to know. I was always under the impression that larger wheels were used to clear the drums.

WARNING FORD PICS BELOW these are my wheels I may put on my burb if it goes 3/4 ton only ones I had of my wheels and lift and offset sorry had to link to my ford site...
most of the problem is not the drums... it the disk brakes the clapers will hit the 15 inch wheels that is why you have to have the wheels ordered... you have to dish the wheels out to clear the caliper
