: Clutch Fan suggestions
GlowPlugChuck 10-29-2008, 03:21 AM My fan clutch is shot and I'm not sure where I should get a replacement. The local GM dealer said it will cost $248 for a OEM replacement. The parts stores say $68, but I'm not sure if I can trust a cheap knock off.
6.2user732 10-29-2008, 11:03 AM iirc you can get the heavy duty hayden from heath diesel good fan clutch and about 100 bones
bbbadboy 10-29-2008, 11:23 AM I use NAPA parts and very rarely have issues with any of them.
jmay2174 10-29-2008, 11:31 AM Well, if money is a factor, you can buy 3.6 clutch fans at the parts store for the price of a GM replacement.
GlowPlugChuck 10-29-2008, 12:25 PM I guess I'll try NAPA first. BTW whats the normal operating temp?
mattthebrat 10-29-2008, 12:52 PM Mine runs about 180-190 year round, but because of my lift kit the rad. hoses practically run across the radiator, which I am sure lowers the efiiency of my cooling system.
bhfabmotorsport 10-29-2008, 01:49 PM i just took mine off and put a solid fan on, cools alot better and it sound cool
bbbadboy 10-29-2008, 01:57 PM 195 year round on mine, up to 210 pulling a hill, loaded in the summer.
bhfabmotorsport 10-29-2008, 09:42 PM yeah mine was like 185 even with a load on, working hard in 90 degree weather, i guess it all depends, every engine is different
okeydokey 10-29-2008, 10:48 PM I have a $60.00 parts house fan clutch on my truck, and it works just fine. My truck runs just under 200 and if I push is it will heat up to the 200 line.
It looks the like the ACDelco replacement clutch at rockauto is $100 and it may even be cheaper at gmpartsdirect.com. Dealers are real good at jacking the price way up on factory parts.
Diaric 10-29-2008, 11:15 PM the ac delco fan is 100 or less at rock auto depending on rotation, shows you what sort of markup the dealer parts are
bhfabmotorsport 10-30-2008, 12:47 PM oh yeah them most of them guys are like 15 percent:eek:. i suppose they gotta make their money somehow. I know when i worked for a gm dealership is was 17 percent over cost, but maybe thats why they went under, because they were screwing people over. Can you say bullshit lol

Now THAT is amazing.......I've not dealt with or worked with any dealer/supply house that had less than a 40% mark up.

He must have meant 17 percent over retail.
bhfabmotorsport 10-30-2008, 09:12 PM yeah over retail sorry i was in a hurry typing. yeah they ripped ya off
6.2ramcharger 10-30-2008, 10:32 PM i dont know what your guys opinion is on a 20'' flex fan, but that is what i am running with my stock dodge radiator and it never gets hotter than 190 even under heavy load, its a flexalite fan and it doesnt really make alot of noise.
bbbadboy 10-31-2008, 02:39 AM If you come over to my shop, I'll show you to the trash can where I keep all of the flex fans that somehow migrate to me.:D
Diaric 10-31-2008, 02:41 AM ya, i had a flex fan once, it left a nice slice in the hood when a blade came off at about 4000 rpm in a gasser
bhfabmotorsport 10-31-2008, 01:42 PM Yeah ive had my share of flex fan crap after losin a few radiators and denting a few hood i said the hell with flexy fans. The only thing the flexing part is good for is when you go to put it in a small trash can and you can just stomp it in there with not having to cut it up.
