I have a 2005 3500 CC D/A 4x4 3.73 with single rear wheels and stock tires. When I steer to the right (going highway speeds) I notice a sound (similar to what underinflated tires sound like). The noise is not present when going straight or steering to the left. I have checked tire inflation pressures and have replaced the diff. fluif with mobile 1 75W90 synth. I have about 1400 miles on the truck. The noise is not all that loud but noticeable (like one is cornering hard ....)
Would the locking rear diff. make such a noise or is it a tire noise?
Other idea is maybe the alignment is off ....
Thanks,
Mark

It's probably the tires. Know anyone you could switch wheels with to rule it out? Are they very agressive tires?

The tires are (I think either BF Goodrich or Bridgestone - which ever GM uses for the 3500 Silverados) stock street LT tires (not very aggressive.) I only hear the noise during right hand curves at highway speeds. I'll check back with the dealer service dept about switching tires (although if it is only the tires, I would not be all that concerned because they would eventually get replaced ....)
Also, noise does not change on accelaration or when I let off of the accelator, only is affected by steering (as soon as the truck is straight or turning left, noise is gone ....) Maybe it is tire tread on outter part of right tires or inner part of left tires ....

Swap your tires from left to right. If the noise goes away or changes to only occuring on left hand turns instead of right then you know its the tires.

I would agree with swapping tires first. If it doesn't change it's probably a hub.

Not so sure how it actually sounds, but my car(grand am) was making a strange noise when steering hard to one side only. I know its not a truck, but its still a GM. It turned out mine was power steering fluid. Could be completely wrong, but its something simple to check.
Hopefully I'll have my truck in the summer, need to graduate first and then its time. Once I get it I'm sure I'll be here more than I am now, which is a lot already.

Mine makes the sound of Swampers goin down the road..Makes it more when i turn to the right a lil..and goes away a lil when i turn left....I have BFG Commercial's....so is it the hub bearings?
How hard and and how much to do?

Hi all,
I notice the sound (again sounds just like underinflated tire noise on a hard turn) even when I turn slightly to the right at highway speeds (sound does not increase more for harder turns.) As soon as I am straight or right on the steering there is no noise.
I'll have the hub bearings checked as well as the tires rotated to see if the noise changes or goes away.
Again,
Thanks for the suggestions.

I had the same noise when ever I made a hard right turn! So I took the truck to a Chevy dealer for service, they took the hubs off and found the bearings to be in great condition. I replaced the tire to a comercial BFG , and the noise whent away for about a year. It came back because I lost a weight and needed to re-align. The sound comes from the tire being out of balance and eventually out of round e.g. ( lost wieght, or bad shocks) My truck was delivered whith a broken front shock,"CHEAP" they are only good enough to get you home, maybe worth $7.00 ea. I found the broken shock when I repaced them with "Bilsteins" a month after buying the truck new?
Good Luck!:)
