Little confused. You ask about putting an LLY in a 71-72 truck but you want to but a 71 cab on 04 Frame?

IMO, transplanting a LLY into a older truck would be much easier than older cab on new frame. You would need to fab new body mounts to get things to line up. Also IIRC all '70ish trucks were reg cab. Reg cab on a crew cab frame would make for some very interesting fabrication; comparing wheel base, bed length, axle centerline to wheelwells of older bed. The list goes on. If I was to do the swap I would transplant engine, & trans into an older truck.

its been done but to a 1966 c-10 the owners lives 10 miles from my house and it turned out pretty good and they just took the body of the c-10 an placed it on the d-max frame but they had to shorten it. check out the link below and its a couple of magazines aswell.

Best of both worlds, IMO the 67-72 Chevys are the best looking of the older trucks! And we all know the Duaramax is the BEST engine!!!!!!
