: Banks warning for those who are looking
Robgmcman 03-17-2005, 08:09 PM This is my warning to all of those who are asking what mod to go with. I asked that question and was told banks had the best support.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p> </o:p>
This is what I received after spending more money for banks then most of the other product out there.
<o:p> </o:p>
Well I have send in my 6 gun and speed loader to get a re-flash. Ok this is fine. It took 2 weeks to get it back. Know I install it all and find out that the speed load is defective (the new one the old one worked fine). I now get to send that back to them. More money in shipping.
<o:p> </o:p>
Just so you know all of this shipping and re-flashing is just to test and see if we can get the 6 gun working on my truck. It is not working right and they are having me do this to see if we can get it working.
<o:p> </o:p>
Now yes they have good phone support. But only because they can not get it right on the first time or second time …
MrsSpoolin 03-17-2005, 09:55 PM We've never had problems with them.
Duratys 03-18-2005, 12:09 AM none here either................still sucks though
TandC 03-18-2005, 12:26 AM Always buy from a local dealer with a good stock on hand that can replace the units and deal with Banks,Banks C/S can be a Pain when purchasing direct, also a good local dealer should check for latest updates and calibrations,Some owners think that because I have No check engine light everything is OK. I also hope that in the Future GBE would stop selling FULL retail to the Public it Has caused them to have a terrible C/R ,in most cases poor communications..Your experience is Proof.
SpoolinTurbo 03-18-2005, 02:21 AM lol we didn't pay full retail.. research.. when you call colin banks direct... lol
TandC 03-18-2005, 08:33 AM Email Me a copy or fax of the reciept. If they sold it to for less than MSRP they violated the security agreement they have with most Dealers.

StraitDiesel 03-18-2005, 09:39 AM I'd tell them they are going to be paying for shipping while trying to get it to work on your truck!!

This Just add to the frustration the customer has to endure with purchasing directly from Banks.does the vehicle have the lastest calibration from Gm.Are injectors balances correctly ,senors issues, poor connections.Just to name a few.
Scotty Seelen 03-18-2005, 11:13 AM Robgmcman,
What is the 6-gun module doing that tells you the speedloader is now defective?

Like I'm going to F over someone who gives me a break because I'm military. Yeah, ROGER THAT! LOL
I personally have had NO problems with anything I have bought from Banks. The 6 gun the way I got it won't kill my tranny, I still go faster, the exhaust sounds good and.. well used to look good until winter gravel sandblasted the tip... I'm happy with what I have, claims be damned.
Anyone who honestly thinks there is truth in any advertising should hit me up for some real estate. I've got a beach in the arctic circle that's screaming "buy me".
Robgmcman 03-20-2005, 10:50 PM GMC just looked at it. It is running perfect on there end.

Robgmcman 03-20-2005, 10:56 PM That is what they toal me when i called. The 6 gun was giving the error code 1,3 It was not working with the switch. However the switch would work on its own.
Robgmcman,
What is the 6-gun module doing that tells you the speedloader is now defective?
Robgmcman 03-24-2005, 07:52 PM This is just getting better. Ok i had them cross ship a speed load so i would have it for my trip that i am leaving on tonight. I asked them when i ship the bad one back to them what do you want me to ship? They said the speed loader and the wires that hook up the speed loader just in case they are bad. I said ok sent it off and they charged me for the new one they sent and will return the money when they get the bad one. My speed loader arrived today. NO F**************ing wires to hook it up. So know i have a speed loader on my card that has no wires to work. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
Did i mention that i went to the dealer and they told me who ever did the install of my banks left a few key bolts loose. They assumed it was me due to the half **** job that was done. They also told me to get the wires that are for the probe up off the engine because they were starting to melt and that they finished tightening the exhaust pip bolts/clamps. With this said guess who installed my entire system for a very high price? YES you guest it Banks them self in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City><st1:place>Azusa</st1:place></st1:City>.
Stay tuned for the next all new episode of "How can banks screw me some more?" "Will the speed loader work or will the dmax chock on it again?"<o:p></o:p>
Scotty Seelen 03-25-2005, 07:31 AM My dealership installed my exhaust probe and fed the wires to the firewall and secured them there. They even used plastic loom protector around the wires that go to the probe, all the way to the grommet in the firewall. I couldn't be happier with their professional installation. I'm sorry to hear of your experience with Banks.
rwagner64 03-25-2005, 07:57 AM I had to send my Banks back as well, It was doing the surge thing at idle.
I asked Banks to send me a fax w/ a self paid postage, no problem.
I did request additional heat shrink which never came, but I had some extra no big deal.
They did the reflash and hooked her back up (two weeks later) but I am in Va so I guess that wasn't all that bad.
When I hooked it back up I was also getting the 1,3 but that was my fault (operator head space) I forgot to hook up one of the wires from the Speed Loader?? And yes I took everything off and did it again----end result I had a good laugh at myself for the one lead I forgot under the dash.
Other then Banks not flashing the Tuner prior to the first installation, I am happy with what I got, the price I paid, and the performance it has given me.
I did the installation myself, it was simple enough and since I am anal about my truck I know it is done right.
I hope you didn't forget the same thing as me.
Sorry to hear you are having so many problems I am sure it will work out.
PCIHEAT 03-28-2005, 12:28 AM As far as banks equipment goes, I think its way overated. I encountered the same problems as rob plus a broke exhaust brake. I spent weeks shipping parts back and forth. The final straw came when my six crap shooter came back with its upgrade and didn't work. The only thing gale banks did right was my refund on everything but my exhaust. FOR ALL YOU SIX CRAP SHOOTERS OUT THERE, STOP TRYING TO POLLISH A TURD!!!!! YOU CAN'T MAKE CHICKEN SOUP OUT OF CHICKEN $HIT..........
02chevydmax 03-28-2005, 01:13 AM Made the mistake of having a shop that Banks had listed as a supplier, install six gun, exhaust, gauges and speed loader. They screwed it up bad. Called Banks, they said bring it to us. They did a complete re-install and fixed everything without charge. Truck runs great, no problems since....... except a tranny up grade due to the Banks limping the tranny. Happy with the system and support.
Scotty Seelen 03-28-2005, 07:27 AM PCIHEAT,
Dem's sum harsh wurds. What programmer or module did you end up with?
Robgmcman 03-30-2005, 06:03 PM I had Someone from banks call me today. They have read this thread and were concerned about my problems. I was not able to get a hold of him yet but he left me a voice mail letting me know he was willing to help me out in any way he can.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Like I have said before and I will say it again. There support and willing to help is there. I just wish it was not needed.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
I will let you guys know what becomes of my truck and the speed loader when i get it.<o:p></o:p>
Robgmcman 04-01-2005, 08:14 PM I will say i have not been able to test the system yet due to the weather, but i will say i am not getting the errors i was.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
I will also say that after talking with the man from banks i am a much happier person. He has told me that if i have any problems he will help me personally. I did find out that some of the problems i am having is not as much equipment as it was personnel problems. They have a few new people in the middle of training and the speed loader incident (not having the wires) was a result of that.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
I went on a trip last week with only the 6 gun installed. I will say that i have not had any of the problems i was having before they flashed it. I was very happy and impressed with the ability to pass up hill with no problems.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
If my test with the speed loader goes well i will edit my signature from (would not recommend to, fits me well after the bugs were worked out)<o:p></o:p>
Terrain Twister 04-02-2005, 12:02 AM Sorry to hear of your experience Robgmcman. It seems some of us have had great luck and others haven't. Fortunately though, one of them (actually two) is a member here. I know for myself he has gone out of his way on a couple of things for me and has been great. And I haven't had any problems with the Banks stuff I've purchased.:)
PCIHEAT,
For your first post you seem to have let off a decent amount of steam. How about giving us some background info and some exacts on what you where going thru. This forum is here to help. Heck, most of us wouldn't even care what programmer if any you went with. We just admire the fact that you enjoy the same type of vehicle we do!
TT
Turbo Boy 04-05-2005, 10:53 PM Had my Banks 6 gun w/speedloader for 2 weeks now. After about 1000 miles on it, I love it. Now, I really don't have anything to compare to it, but it made a huge difference on performance. I just went to Lake Havasu...about 6oo miles rt for me, and it hauls ass. My only complaint so far is 1) I wish it allowed me to increase the speed limiter and 2) in level 6, when I take off from standing stop, it seems to lag for a second at the 2nd gear shift...I think maybe the tranny is slipping for the second. Not really sure how a slipping tranny feels. Overall, truck seems to run the same as stock...only when I need the power, it's a slight dip into the gas pedal.
Can't wait for exhuast and air filter to help the engine breath better.
Scotty Seelen 04-06-2005, 07:23 AM The 2nd gearshift lag is actually the truck defueling between shifts. It should do this in levels 5 and 6 (with speedloader) through all of the gearshifts. This is so it doesn't grenade your transmission.
DSLBeast 04-06-2005, 09:42 AM none here either................still sucks thoughI agree!!!:exactly:
extremely over rated!!!!
PCIHEAT 04-06-2005, 11:19 PM http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/Throwup.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/censored.gif Banks equipment SUCKS......... I stand pretty firm on my views of Gale Banks equipment, and I don't reccommend it to anybody. My buddie from PA. is loaning me his Edge Box with the attitude monitor. I spent the money and had it upgraded to hot juice. The difference is unreal, like nite and day. I live about 3 hours south of Kennedy Diesel in IL.
http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/cool2.gif The GM Diesel Tech (Eric)installed in a Sun Coast stage 4 tranny and converter into the truck. I highly reccommend his services. After breaking the trans in hard, eric threw on a Van Akin box, bad combination. Those two items don't really mesh good. On the other hand, Edge products KICK A$$......with this tranny, I would like to try out that ATS box. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/rockon.gif
rolloffhill 04-06-2005, 11:29 PM PCIHEAT Do you realize that you have already said that exact same thing in your FIRST post. If you don't have anything new to add.......
You aren't one of those guy's that keeps repeating themselves until someone answers are you???
:Wedgie: :duh:
McRat 04-06-2005, 11:36 PM Dunno. My friend Ralph is actually running surprising numbers with his LLY Banks.
I would wait to pass judgement until after more trucks are running it.
It is one of the few tuners I have not tested, but should get some seat time with it in May.
Not enough data yet in my opinion.
PCIHEAT 04-07-2005, 12:05 AM No I just changed my reply, I didn't relize this was the same thread that I encountered a few days ago.:blahblah: But I still stand firm on my opinion when it comes to banks equipment. ROLLOFFHILL:flipa:
rolloffhill 04-07-2005, 12:19 AM Why don't you go "POLISH A TURD"!!!!:Moon:
SpoolinTurbo 04-07-2005, 04:48 AM No issues with my Banks stuff here, I like it.
hdmax 04-07-2005, 09:03 AM Like I'm going to F over someone who gives me a break because I'm military.
If you are Military, then you should get a big discount! I was in the Army from 1980-1986, and spent 3 years in the 5-77th in Manhiem, Germany. I also spent 2 yrs and 7 months at Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri. (I was a 63 november, "Tank systems mechanic") I was on Color Guard, there were many small towns that was so back woods, and prejudice against Blacks, and Military. I put the Military a couple notches above the rest of the public, always have, and always will. Some of these places in Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Tennessee had snakes, dogs, and any other animal above the Military. We were treated very poorly, and our Black Soldiers were treated worse.
I wish you the very best, and be safe!
Robgmcman 04-30-2005, 09:13 PM Well i am now ready to post what i have found with the speed loader. My truck is still have a problem with turbo bark (not as bad) but i am still not as happy with the formula when the speed loader is hooked up. The truck just will not jump off the line or get up and go as fast as it does without the speed loader. I also know the amount of smoke is not as strong with the speed loader installed. I am wondering if they back it down with the last update i had. Anyway i am uninstalling the speed loader and will wait for a new update to try it all over again when it comes out if it does.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
I am working on saving for a new tranny. Then I will have a banks system for sale. Unless I can get more power from it without my turbo bark.
