As much as I agree with that, you know that will drive the demand for diesel up and hence the price..

Seriously though, I would love to have one in a 1/2 ton sierra. Woo Hoo!

They've tested the H3T with the 4.5. My brother works at the Pheonix proving grounds and saw them....

Ah, a few million 4.5's fuel consumption is just a drop in the bucket with all the semis sucking it down. Don't know how much different price can get. Here diesel is $1.00/gal more than unleaded. My wife points this out every time we pass a gas station because I'm trying to get her into the 4.5 when its out. Perfect timing. Her lease is up on her car in Aug 09

That combination is the only way the H3T is going to sell. 16 on the highway is a joke(That is what it is rated at with the 5.3 on the highway). The H3T is a cool vehicle but it needs a diesel.

Even with the higher price of diesel, the cost per mile is still lower on most of the consumer diesel rigs as compared to the gassers.

My old 94 Burb with the 6.5 gets 21-22 on the Highway

The 4.5 should be a real blessing if they will just get the thing in the rigs so the public can buy them.

GM is what GM was, a very large corp that has little bean counters that can't count.

If they could count, the company would not be where it is today!:(

As for the H3T getting a 4.5L diesel, that day may not come. GM has plans to sell the Hummer Brand :( http://solveclimate.com/blog/20080603/gm-sell-hummer-brand-now-auto-industrys-worst-performer

most importantly.. they need to not make the 1/2ton with a 4.5 a 50k truck...

You'd be surprised how fast a vehicle can hit $50K.
I'd love a mini cooper. Get on thier web site, start building a mini, supercharged, some other extras, and all of a sudden a $20K ish car hit almost $50K. Ouch! I guess I better stick with my Dmax.

i understand that.. but you should be able to get the 4.5 with out having a ltz or going spending 7k off the top... they need to make it cost effictive

I dont know if you can expect a financially strapped multibillion dollar project to produce the most advanced diesel engine ever for less than $7K per unit in todays economy.
There are only 100 cents in a dollar.

I think it's reasonable to expect something worth buying. If compacting the diesel down small enough and cheap enough to make it worth while isn't possible in a 1/2 ton pickup, then don't do it. If it's only use is going to be a replacement for 6.6l's in 2500's that comes at a marginally cheaper price with marginally improved fuel economy, then why bother? If you're producing a vehicle that costs 40k just to incorporate a highly advanced piece of artwork that saves $1000 a year in fuel over a 30k gas truck, where's the payoff for the consumer?

My only guess would be that the environment (not to mention a bit of profit) is at the forefront of the decision if this is how it's gonna turn out.

And the last year a supercharged Cooper S was available was 2006.

I hate to say it but the 4.5 will probably not see the light of day. Ford has already "postponed" (aka killed) their 4.4 diesel for the F150. GM has also just killed off the replacement development for the Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade. The market for light duty trucks has tanked, if there's no profit-they won't mfgr it. :banghead:

Here's what GM needs to do with the 4.5 after they buy Chrysler - put it in the Jeep Rubicon. Wouldn't that be a killer combo.

I guess GM figures if no one else is putting a half ton diesel on the market, then they do not have to either. Spend the money on the high mpg cars and the hybrids..and nothing else.

gm should have never left opening in 1500 without diesel. they wasted time and money on that show V6 duramax, should have done half 6.6 inline 4. would have streamlined manufacturiring and think sold but load. they really need to find all problems, step upto best parts, send inspectors to suppliers to check quality. do it like before qs/iso crap, or rely on sigma 6 to fix deficiencies that qs/iso won't. make 4.5 and 6speed auto availble as crate options. high production can help reduce unit costs, the bad thing is you will probably have to buy dpf with engine and cat is supposed to be bolted to turbo. bad thing about 4.5 as crate you will have to connect all this smog stuff until someone get ecm to look into. like 4.5 in jeep, imagine chrysler would also, along with that 6 speed.

I doubt a 3.3 4cyl would be smooth enough.... too much vibration would be my guess.

As well as being way too small to compete with the competition. just my 2c

Jeep ended the 4 cylinder 2.8L Liberty Turbo Diesel's run for some reason. I'd guess mostly due to emissions.

Probably was not the 4.5. GM already sells H3s in South Africa with a small diesel.

Make a marine version. Be nice boat engine, not for the go fast crowd, but for small cruisers.

X2 Haden't thought about that but your rignt. It would likely make a great marine power plant and likely very economical to run and low maintenance.
