yo, yo, yo, Thanks for your input on my previous questions. I just went out and bought a Juice. Everyone that has one seems to be very happy, so I took the big step and ordered mine.

But my next question is..........Do I need to go to a 4" exhaust or can I use my factory exhaust and just replace the factory muffler with a less restricted one? Also I am leaning towards an exhaust brake, any advice on that? I look forward to more communication.:help:

I'd open up both ends.... Exhaust and AirIntake. You got the power from the Juice...now give it a little room to work better.

There's been a lot of information on the forum regarding muffler replacements and some of us have just spliced in a free-flow muffler into the factory pipes. Maybe this will help:

I bought mine on the internet from www.henschelandsons.com in Connellsville,PA. The muffler was the Magnaflow 14771 - $149.42, the adapters were 15441 - $22.33 each. I bought 4" band clamps from a local International truck parts supplier. The job wasn't so tough, I did it in my driveway without even jacking the truck. I cut the stock muffler outlet pipe as close to the muffler as possible with a chain cutter. This allowed me to get the muffler and inlet pipe out, as well as the tailpipe. I then cut off the stock inlet as close to the muffler as possible. This left "stubs" of stock pipe inside the factory hangers. A trial fit of the muffler and clamps indicated that the adapter/muffler combo was a bit too long for the gap vacated by the stock muffler, so I trimmed about 1" off the Magnaflow inlet and outlet and the same off the 3-1/2" sections of the adapters. The stubs were also oval due to both of them being in bends in the factory install. I rounded them back out for a better fit to the adapters with a 3-1/2" pipe expander tool. I then clamped the adapters to the Magnaflow and fit the three pieces back up under the truck. When I got it where I wanted it - in the factory hangers and the tip of the tailpipe supported on a floor jack, I tack welded the 3-1/2" end of the adapters to the stock pipes. Then I released the band clamps, brought out the three pieces, full welded the adapters to the pipes and put everything back. Whole job took about 4 hours.

I paid someone to do it (and too much at that). If you can swap out the muffler youself for just the cost of the unit, that would be hard to beat. It's possible a full 4" system will reduce EGTs even more, but I typically see 650 - 750 degrees (unloaded) at 75 mph w/ambient temp of 60 degrees w/Juice at level 4. Seems pretty good to me. Shumdit and I have been trying to get together to run a side by side comparo on the EGTs (he has a Banks exhaust), but we haven't managed it yet.

I recommend the same thing as Bodysurfer. Get rid of the restriction and let the engine breathe a little bit.

I have been running the Juice on mine for 39K with the stock exhaust. It has done a great job solo and towing my 10K 5th wheel. I just bought a MBRP 4" stainless. I am leaving for southern Utah with the trailer Sunday. I have made this trip the last two years and have mileage and some EGT data. I will let you know how it goes. Later! Frank

If you have the 5speed allison automatic transmission, you really don't need the exhaust brake, :) IMO

got mine via ebay and had a local exhaust shop install it for about $100. I'd do it again that way.

I figured I would try the Aero Turbine on mine with the stock pipes and see how that sounded before maybe going to a 4" exhaust. It's great. With just the Aero Turbine muffler in place it sounds like a 427 Chevy with Flowmasters outside the truck. The interior sound, though louder, is not intrusive to hearing the stereo. When I first put in on ($50 installation) there seemed to be a "droning" sound right around 55 mph and 65 mph but after a couple of months that has gone away and it sounds very mellow. Nothing like a clattering diesel up front with ass-kicking sound coming out the back.

Does anybody make an exhaust that exits the truck like a stock unit, angled out, slash cut tip. And also is stainless with no tip, especially those cheesy tips right on the end that goe to 5". Everybody can look and see its not a 5" exhaust. Basically identical to stock except performance muffler and 4" tubing.

Whats your truck type ?

Unless you pull heavy loads and or in the mountains, I see no reason to spend the money for a 4" +, if your only mod is an Edge box. Muffler is sufficient for me.
Running a hot Juice 125hp box last year I gained no noticble ET by adding an air box and a Flowmaster muffler. Sounds good though and EGTs may have dropped a little under load.
ve more mods now)

I got no drop in EGT's from my K&N intake, and since the wastegate is what determines how much air the engine get's, I doubt there is any difference in power either. You may get more air earlier before hitting the point where the wastegate opens. I think it was mostly a waste of money. Maybe the turbo whistles a little more, but that's about it. I wouldn't spend the money there again. Besides there seems to be some question if these cotton gauge filters filter as well as stock. I run K&N's on everything else I own and have had no problems. I just don't think the intake system on our truck does anything but lighten the truck a little by removing weight from your wallet.

Something to think about before you give the after market people gobs of your hard earned money to to keep up with those that have every add on known to mankind! I understand that we all love to alter stock systems, but listen to a diesel engineers about all the money making add ons! First, we assume that even though vehicle manufacturers are in competition to sell you on power/economy for towing, they purposely restrict their engines with undersized exhausts and poor designs for the fun of it! How much extra would some of these ad on cost GM or Ford at the factory level if they were an easy answer! I used to restore classic Corvettes and people were always convinced the after market cams were superior just because they were after market! I found the GM engineer's combination of parts for Corvette high performance engines always worked better when you considered power, economy, cost, and lack of problems! The "stock" GM high performance Corvette 327 and 454 engines are still a white knuckle hoot to drive over four decades later! Adding lots of after market stuff didn't improve them much, only time and engineers did that! One thing is clear, most "true believers" in any product from vitamin C to magic diets pills are affected by the placebo affect! They imagine and create their own "facts"! My understanding is that with a diesel most increases in power are a direct trade off for fuel economy due to pushing more fuel through the engine!

When I was 18, I didn't care about practical issues as long as my car was the lowest, loudest and fastest! With my tow vehicle I need it to be practical and economical! Cost versus return! I pull a 30 footer with my 2002 4x4 crew cab Chevy Duramax and it does just fine with no add ons! I'll save all that money for high diesel fuel costs! Let's do something about that problem!

Have you met the guy whose diesel pulled a 85 ft. trailer up MT. Everest at 105 MPH passing an Air Force Stealth Bomber and still got 86 MPG! He's at most every campground!
